Sep 22 2008Text Messaging Lowers Your IQ 10 Points

In a recent New York Times article, technology trend forecaster Aul Saffo claims that texting actually makes a person dumber.
The act of texting automatically removes 10 I.Q. points. "The truth of the matter is there are hobbies that are incompatible. You don't want to do mushroom-hunting and bird-watching at the same time, and it is the same with texting and other activities. We have all seen people walk into parking meters or walk into traffic and seem startled by oncoming cars."
whatev, dats a fkng li.

You would, however, want to do magic-mushroom-eating and bird-watching at the same time.

Could it be that you're just not as observant when you're staring at something in your hand? It has nothing to do with texting. You could be reading a book (which is considered a "smart" thing) and you'd probably still run into stuff.

I don't know, I am staring at something in my hand right now, and I feel pretty observant....

i dont think that texting makes a persons IQ "shrink", but the usage of OMG, WTF, ROFLMAO, and shit like that does, UNLESS USED IN A SARCASTIC MANNER, that is..
TRUE STORY:
I was in the mall when I (a young female) was checking out a hot piece of (young female) A from across the store.. Her "boss" who was practically still in diapers asks her a serious question and the dumb (hot) bitch responds "Like, OMG, IDK!"
ZOMGWTF!?! is up with dat!?

Its more like why the f*** are you trying to walk around and text at the same time. I especially hate it when people do that when driving. Talking on the phone is bad enough.

@18
Seeing as how the national average is 301,467 I'd say yeah, that IS bad.

Yeah, unfortunately "technology trend forecaster" ranks just slightly higher than "horoscope writer" in terms of required qualifications. This guy has zero credibility. I dislike texters intensely, but the studies I've heard about don't indicate that texting has any real affect on education (much less, intelligence).
I'm also puzzled by the photo. Is this supposed to show that taxi drivers are psychopaths itching to mow down pedestrians in the cross walk?
(geekologie writer, you know I heart you long time)
