Sep 4 2008NES Inspired Art From A Loyal Geekologist

See, being a loyal Geekologist pays off. You make something cool, and presto -- your work appears on the greatest geek website created since my dad invented this series of tubes. Geekologie reader and deviantart user =NES--stil-the-best (aka Justin) creates art based on some of his favorite classic Nintendo games. As you can see, this is a 3-D rendering of Super Mario Bros. Hit the jump for several more of these, along with a couple Legend of Zelda scenes. There are also some perfectly executed Perler bead Punch Out! and Mega Man characters. Good looking, Justin, I've always wanted to know what the original Zelda would look like in 3-D. And also, boobs -- I'm tired of staring at a damn screen. Now which one of you lovely ladies wants to make my dream come true? And then, haha, a sandwich platter? I'm being serious.
Jump off for the gallery.

Thanks Justin, keep up the good work. And also, send me a Zelda something.

Love the Zelda ones. They're all great but I especially love the Zelda ones. Now I want a remake in that style, playing it regularly just wont be the same.

Hey i used to play with those little bead things (that you melt together with a clothes iron) when i was like a 6 yr. old girl! lol, whose the sad lonely bastard putting them together?
15. theotheraaron - September 4, 2008 12:57 PM

16. gingela5 - September 4, 2008 12:57 PM
That's awesome...I wish I had time and patience to do that!
17. DigitalT - September 4, 2008 1:10 PM
Pretty sweet!

i dont see how this can be considered art when its taking another person's work and recreating it.

I think it is all fantastic. This is not a complaint, but I couldn't help but think when viewing the first one (Mario World ? -1) that the stage wouldn't have so much depth. I imagine that all the object Mario jumps onto would be in perfect alignment since you don't navigate him closer and farther as he runs from Left to Right.
I'm stil impressed, though.

Many thanks for featuring my 8-bit works, GW!
For those who like these Perler beadsprites, here's a forum solely devoted to it, and some of the pieces in there really put my stuff to shame. http://beadsprites.informe.com/viewforum.php?f=1&sid=38c767f680914ad40cc3ea50652e0c16
Doctor Octorok, Zaghrenaut, and Darlaa are great places to start. Those three, especially, make some jaw-droppingly huge and intricate pieces.

NES--still-the-best - You'd like Paper Mario.

18. Because naming yourself after a Nightwish song is the height of imagination. It's art because it takes time and effort in creating that stuff. If you ever worked with perler or hama beads, you would know how fucking ridiculously annoying that shit can be.
23. WTF? - September 5, 2008 1:10 PM
@ 22.
Yeah, it takes a real fucking genius to iron some beads together.
24. Cheatachu22 - September 5, 2008 11:16 PM
@23.
Yeah. It fucking does take a genius to have the patience to work with those things. And to make them so accurate. In my knowledge you've never had an article about you, or made anything so awesome. So, abusing the meme, how about a nice hot cup of STFU?
And NES man, very nice.
25. Daniel Zegiel - September 6, 2008 6:17 PM
Awesome!
26. dadoren - September 10, 2008 12:53 PM
Nice!!!! I'd like to see some macaroni and cheese NES sprites and maybe a Zelda bean tambourine.Hmmmm... maybe i should take the initiative!?!?!?!
