Sep 19 2008Microsoft's New 'I'm A PC' Commercial

Well folks, after the two Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld commercials, Microsoft has shifted their advertising campaign to a more head-on approach to Apple's 'Get A Mac' ads. Introducing the 'I'm a PC' commercial! As you can see from the video, people with PC's do all sorts of crazy things. From shark diving to practicing law to building green buildings, and even fishmongering, PC's have their hand in every pot. But not mine -- nobody touches me gold!

Thanks to Goat and Kane, who probably only use theirs for porn.

BOOO! I can't see the video... damned firewall

...not first....and dito on the firewall

Trust me, you're not missing much... I saw this (excruciatingly long) commercial yesterday and I wanted to blow my brains out...

Wow, just wow.

The Seinfeld commercials proved M$ was an old senile porridge eater.

But this piece of garbage....just wow. I love the end.

"I'm a PC and I sell fish"

You can't make this up. Seriously.

I'm a complete douchebag...

...and I'm a PC.

These commercials are ridiculous... they're not funny, they're just touting that the majority uses PC's... which everyone knows already... doesn't make them better just for that.... they're still crap...

ok now i don't feel bad
i think that was the best thing that wall ever did for me, no it doesn't have to block viruses, just crappy commercials

@5 - Not quite complete, but if you work at it, someday.

At least this was better than seinfeld cutting his toenails in a little girl's room. That was too much.

and I'm still a MAC!

Deepak Chopra was like the last little undigested peanut on the vast pile of shit that was that commercial. Yarrrr?

"I'm a PC and a Human Being... not a human doing... not a human thinking... a human being"

thats the most retarded cliché of an attempt at philosophy I've ever heard... What Van Halen song are they going to quote in the next one.

"I'm a PC and a Human Being... not a human doing... not a human thinking... a human being"

The gf and I just saw this on the televisions this morning, and it was like watching a drunk nerd try over and over again to score with a hot chick, positively oozing desperation in thick, oily glops. It made us feel so uncomfortable, we had to turn it off before it was over.

"I'm a PC, and do you like me yet? Huh? HUH?! PLEASE LIKE ME!"

They should fire their ad agency. seriously.

I can't buy a mac because I can't stand the stench of my local mac store. It's like, B.O. mixed with day old Ganja, Doritos and a hint of patchoulli.

And why are they always wearing green surplus jackets and weird corduroy hats? It was like 80 degrees out.

yeah, whatever...... Microsoft, most of the sheep of the world follow you because they don't know any better. Having the majority market share doesn't always mean you're the best.

I'll stick with my Mac

Yarr! This be one crappy commercial.

i'm a PC but I use Linux

#15 What store are you going in? Every apple store I've ever been in is always really clean and professional. Sure you don't mean the mac kiosk in best buy?
Besides I always order my stuff off the website anyway.

will the computer quable ever end? MAN! what does a guy gotta do to see some BOOBIES around here?!

teehehehe, boobies

remember Microsoft...at one point in time, A LOT of people listened to NSYNC. that doesn't make them the best musical group of all time.

also....the mac ads take people away from Windows and put them on a Mac. This commercial will not take Mac users and put them on Windows.

ummmmm, you guys DID see the word Boobies up there right? juuuuuuust wanted to double check.

I'm a PC and I lick taint for cash.

i have moobs... does that count?

Thats whats funny, they're not trying to get Mac users to switch, they're trying to keep PC users from going to Mac. Its pretty sad that its come to this.

Thank god. No more Seinfeld! :D

Those were terrible, but at least this one was moderately entertaining (despite it's ADD approach to product marketing).

Those weren't very good people. The mac people are better.

@21, that is the whole point of pop music. Teenage girls will ALWAYS be the majority market. The Beatles were a hit because of that (luckily they were good also)

I still don't see what the big deal is, I've used the Windows/Mac/Linux os's. Apple is the only one I have problems with (I'm not dissing it, I just don't use it often so I don't know how to fix some of the stuff). Windows and Linux never happen for me, I have my computer on pretty much 24/7, no restarts needed.
I think the problem with Windows getting a bad rep is because they are the majority, and the majority of people are stupid and don't know how to use a computer.

I liked it! :D

..Mac WOOH

The dude that says "I'm a PC, and I have a beard <insert uncomfortable pause" gave me a tiny giggle.

I'm a Mac, and I have a huge penis.

I use a PC, and I don't care about advertising.

Still going to use my PC.

Icon - "I'm a Mac, and I have a huge penis."

Thats because I'm shoving it in YOUR ASS right now. You know you like it.

Roger is also a short version of the term Jolly Roger which refers to a black flag with white skull and crossbones, formerly used by sea pirates since as early as 1723.

From c.1650 to c.1870 Roger was slang for the word "penis" probably due to the origin of the name involving fame with a spear. Therefore "roger" became slang for "have sex with".

In 19th century England, Roger was slang for the cloud of toxic green gas that periodically swept through the chlorine bleach factories.

-wikipedia

@35

so ROGER used to mean F***

i'm with 18.

...but i do like this commercial. i'm tired of the mac ads.

(i don't use windows though)

@34

That made no sense whatsoever.

I will put a gun to my head before I use a mac, theres only one good thing a mac can do run windows via bootcamp.

cant even play games on that shit (photoshop is not a game)

well...i just think they made a bundle on that ad...it certainly goes to address the stereotyping of pc users who aren't purchasing high priced mac...the only thing is...its still good for mac...cause they have bootcamp on leopard os...so its sorta an interesting attempt to attack a mac ad, but there are some flaws...

In a business environment PC is much better than Mac hands down. But for personal use Mac's are more friendly.

LOL @ mac users.

It's like watching democrats get all pissy and on the attack because of Palin. Go smoke a joint and cool off.

The seinfeld commercials sucked sure, but this commercial is better than that condescending crap that Apple has been peddling for a while now.

They finally figured out a more effective ad campaign, and did it in typical PC Fashion: A poor copy of Apple, years later.

...they just try so hard... hahaha

"Life without walls"... except firewalls, right?

And I'm a PC who can't think of anything better than acknowledge an Apple Commercial that's kicking my ass.

To be honest, I liked the commercial quite a bit.

It's not here to steal users from apple, it's not here to showcase a new product or new features or a new policy or anything.

The only goal of this commercial is to be a rebuttal to apple's Mac Vs. PC commercials, and they did that very well. The underlying tone of the commercial is "I'm a PC and I haven't got anything stuck up my ass".

Now, seriously, what's so good about macs?

I, like most people in this world, want my computer to run games, download porn and from time to time get some work done. And I want to be able to cheaply upgrade my computer to meet the new system requirements so I don't have to buy a whole new expensive computer in a couple of years. Can that be done on a mac?

People who know about computers choose PC, so why in the hell should I choose a mac?

The latest Microsoft Ads are getting the blue screen of death! (video)

As already mentioned in the commercial "I am a PC .. you got any problems with that? "

LULZ @46

PC fanboy

@49

Well, I don't consider myself a fanboy, I don't understand what's so good about macs and I was just asking simple questions.

And since I've owned macs and pcs and I like pcs better then yes, count me in the pc fanboys list.

Does anybody else besides me realize that EVERYBODY uses PCs? All Macs are are PCs with a Mac operating system. PC stands for personal computer, and you can put any operating system you want on one. This commercial would make more sense if the people were saying, "I'm a Windows."

Thats what really pisses me off about those Mac vs. PC commercials. A Mac is a PC!

@51

When someone says PC, most people instinctively assume you are talking about a computer running Windows. Yes, PC stands for Personal Computer, but PC has been ingrained into everyones mind as a Windows platform, and that's where the issue you're talking about comes into play. That's a society fault (not that it matters), not Mac's fault.

LULZ @50

Actually thinks "PC fanboy" list exists.

@53

And the fact he says "Well, I don't consider myself a fanboy", then goes on to say "count me in the pc fanboys list."

@54

You seem too idiot to understand the whole thing but I'll try:

1.- I dont consider myself a fanboy
2.- if I had to be a pc or a mac fanboy I'd be in the PC list since I like them better.

You know, this is how people talk, someday you'll understand that two sentences that appearently contradicts themselves actually can make sense. Just trust me, we adults know best.

You actually didn't say "If I had to be a pc or mac fanboy.. blah blah blah", you said, and I quote again, "count me in the pc fanboys list.". I didn't take it out of context, I took it out directly from your reply. That's like you saying "I hate getting ass raped", then in the next sentence, saying "Count me into the want-to-be-ass-raped category!". Don't hate me because you're wrong.

Trust me, we adults know best, you're still a f***ing idiot.

By the way, you're mother is a whore.

Icon, you're still to idiot to understand.

Love and kisses.

Don't you mean I'm "too" idiot to understand? And on that note, don't you mean I'm too much of an idiot to understand?

And you're trying to give me English lessons?

I think mac's are for people who are technologically challenged, with their easy to use interface. But people who know shit about computers oughtta go with PC. "Hello, I'm a mac and I get rammed in the ass every once in a while by my roommate's PC. He is the boss of the house."

I think mac's are for people who are technologically challenged, with their easy to use interface. But people who know shit about computers oughtta go with PC. "Hello, I'm a mac and I get rammed in the ass every once in a while by my roommate's PC. He is the boss of the house."

Mwahahaha Icon, as soon as I noticed the typo I was eager to read your reply. You're so simple... it makes you cute.

As for the english lessons.: NO i-d-i-o-t. I tried to give you general understanding lessons.

And guess what? english is not my first language.

I'm a pc, and I'm usuing a mac and wanting to kill myself.
OH LOOK! I'M TRENDY AND HIP! NEVERMIND WANTING MY COMPUTER TO DO ANYTHING USEFUL, LOOK! IT HAS AN APPLE ON IT! HAW HAW
Come on, seriously? People calling others "PC fanboys" when a shitload of these comments are all about what, "Mac pride"?

@61 EXACTLY. I use a mac because my job ISN"T to build, fix, array or configure computers. My job requires me to use a computer to design and layout print and web marketing pieces. A mac is the best tool for that. I've used both.

I also do home audio recording as a hobby. Macs are really great and inexpensive for that if you go the Logic route.

Apple has invested a ton of R&D towards both of those avenues and it has certainly paid off in the quality of the end product. Luckily for me, since "creative" is cool now, that R&D can be paid for by plenty of others who are just in it for the brand image.

As a commercial artist I gotta say "hats off to Apple" for their clever marketing strategies... But more importantly, their products are the best for what I do.

and p.s.... Last time I checked, the Mac route was cheaper for high-performance laptops.

Try to build a comparable machine on Dell's site and see for yourself.

Going against absolutely everyone else here- I own a mac and I liked that commercial. I thought it was cute, and it's nice to see them finally take a stab at the mac's campaign that's been going on for so damn long unchallenged.

Different computers do different shit. We're all unique snowflakes, and thus we each need something special to complete our specific computation needs. I'm an illustration major. Therefore, a mac suits me best. It's not something worthy of an internet bitchwar.

So if it's cold enough outside to freeze the balls off of a brass monkey, you could go inside and Jolly Roger the cargo hold, or if you like the cold, avast the poop deck?
BTW- I prefer PC, mostly because it's OS doesn't assume you're a f@cking moron

@62 - we knew that already... unfortunately, no one here speaks f***tard.

I'm a PC, and a Windows user, and a Mac OS X user, and a Linux user. Each has its strengths and so I use them for different things. I think the commercial is highlighting the fact that Windows supports basically any device and runs on PCs of all shapes and sizes, whereas I can count the mac models on one hand. I'm happy to see MS trying to counter the image Mac has done such a good job portraying.. I'm a PC and I'm an example of the diversity MS is embracing, and I'm sick of ignorant MS-bashing posts which make Mac users look immature

i'm a PC.....and i get viruses.

f*** that windows trash.

being a Geek Squad agent and seeing how often PCs get all kinds of f***ed up (Yes, on hardware, and more commonly, software)
is plenty of reason why i own an Apple.

I've always hated the Mac commercials. Advertising campaigns that have "our product" represented by the "Cool guy" and "their product" as the bumbling idiot just seem cheap, stupid, and condescending to the viewer.

I think these PC adds will force mac to take the Mac vs. PC adds off the air. After these PC adds get exposer, the mac adds won't have the same effect. MAC will be known as the creators of a negative sterio type, and I just don't think mac will want to be associted with that type of publisity...

I'm a PC becuase I'm sick of Macs assuming they're soo damn cool...

WOW, this means Windows is concerned about the company that has less than 8% market share. Compared to their 90+% ... http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=8

Working for a creative agency, I can't understand why Windows would even consider running an ad of this sort, but after seeing their Seinfeld flop of an ad, I shouldn't be surprised about the lack of creativity from any ad campaign they produce.

The fact is that the Mac OS is better (and has been for 20 years) than windows.

Another thing I don't understand is why everybody thinks Macs are really great for graphic design...what makes them better? I run Photoshop and Illustrator on my computer with no problems at all. What exactly makes people think that Macs are so superior when it comes to graphic design?

#74 - i'm a graphic designer and the philosophy that macs are better for GD is outdated. These days you can buy a powerful, stable laptop or desktop PC for much less than a mac.
Plus you don't look like a wanker sporting a sleek G-whatever notebook and box frame glasses.

"F*** i-Tunes"

Im an american...

so i dont get this humor.

90% is a PC

Are they trying to sell me fish?

Windows is simply pointing out that Mac has stereotyped PC users as pasty, nervous, desperate nerds.

I am a PC user. Vista runs every program I need (Photoshop, Illustrator, Abelton Live, et. cetera) flawlessly. I have never had a system crash or experienced hardware or software incompatibility.

The Mac commercials, though by no means offensive, convey this message: "Hip kids use Macs."

My computer(or OS) is not a lifestyle. It is a medium that allows me to do what I need to do and want to without hassle.

The Mac adds are as shallow as the 08' Campaign adds.

I'm a PC, and Mac doesn't only "compete" with me, it hates me and wants me to feel bad =(

I think the new ads are clever and a helluva lot better than the Seinfeld ones which I were hoping would have been Seinfeld bagging on "I'm a Mac" guy but instead were just plain awful.

I really think MS is still missing the boat though because I would have thrown the entire kitchen sink at Mac and talked about not needing to bash a certain group of people (eg. nerds) in order to sell a product.

I thought the Mac ads were funny but very childish... To me Mac ads should have displayed the powerful graphics, speed and overall grace that the OS runs with.

I think the PC ads should literally show a dollar comparison with RAM upgrades, HDD upgrades, etc etc. Macs are all proprietary, fixed price nonsense. I can get a decent PC for $300-$500 right now... find me a Mac at that price. Now for a guy like me, I can have either one so I probably prefer a Mac. But guess what, not everyone can a) afford a Porsche and b) not everyone wants a sports car.

I'm fine with my sedan that gets me to and from work just fine and cost $15K less than a "Prius" that won't make up for it in "extra gas mileage" or in Mac's case "better graphics and cool appeal"... peace

This commercial is about 2 years late, just like everything else the PC does

I for one liked the commercial. They're simply pointing out that contrary to what those annoying Mac commercials are trying to convince people of, PC users are not outdated, nerdy, fumbling idiots.
I'm an architecture student with a PC that runs Windows Vista, I run all the programs that I need and I haven't had a single problem with them. And contrary to some other people I don't need a mac to feel 'cool' or superior.

man i really hate the mac ads, they really have NO point except to bash PCs.
I liked this commercial because it was different, though it didn't really say anything either but at least it doesn't sell its products by attacking others

if you MUST attack someone else's product to sell yours, perhaps yours wasn't really that good to begin with?

PC=Poorly Conceived, Poor Comedy, Pre-Cenozoic, Painfully Catastrophic, and soon to be....Permanently Canned.

"I'm a PC and I'm not an asshole."

I liked this commercial for the simple reason that it seems so casual in its approach. It's like when you move into a new neighbourhood and you're automatically greeted by the welcoming committee. "Hey, I'm a PC and if you aren't that's okay." In contrast I have felt that the Mac commercials stem from some elitist culture so enamored by the girth of length of their own penises that they can't talk about anything else. Apple in general seems to promote this perspective. Why the hell do iPods have equal billing with mp3 players in shop categories? Just like a Mac is a Personal Computer, an iPod is an mp3 player. Apple has built themselves up on being different for so long they themselves are probably confused when people point out the differences.

As for the whole PC Fanboy versus Mac Pride debate it's all rather silly to me. I'm not a Mac user on the basis that I honestly see need to make the switch. Most of the bitching I hear about the trials and rigors of using Microsoft products fail to move me because I don't have those problems. Trust me, there are people in this world who can f*** up a Mac just as easily as anything else. When you make something fool-proof the world creates a better breed of fool.

And for the record I actually like the Seinfeld/Gates commercials. I find them deliciously non sequitur.

If you do a little research, you will discover that this video was actually made on a Mac. What an embarrassment for Microsoft.

Umm yeah actually the video might have been made on a mac but the commercial wasn't... How is it embarassing if someone on a MAC is uploading commercials about competition. That's great. Must mean it caught someone's attention.

Umm the fact that PCs are used everywhere makes PCs better. Compatibility makes it better. SO being able to go from the US to Japan and know that there will be PCs so you won't have to worry about compatibility makes it better.

I for one like the commercial and although this is a biased MAC fanboy blog, I figured I'd should show some love for this commercial and PCs

I won't deny that MACs are nice, but man MAC lovin fanboys (and girls) stay hatin on PCs.

If PCs were gone what would you all bitch about?

macs are the best by you can use os10 plus windows without modification so macs are also pcs but pcs are just pcs got it

did you know that the people that made this "Im a PC" ad were mac people. They also made tv ad using a MAC.

People argue about the dumbest things... I know I sat here and read this but I was really bored... the energy used in this pointless discussion could be better used...

There are much bigger fish to fry.

I use a mac, I use a PC, too. GO GET THE HOLY WATER!
Who gives a flying f***? These are computers, for the sake of my sanity.
In other words, these PC commercials BLOW and anyone with a real time to spare DOESN'T CARE.

...
Didn't quite realize that the PC ads were so horrible. I thought they were fine. In fact, I thought it was more ridiculous that one of Mac's later commercials rags on PC so much for excessive advertising... Yeah right. PC now has, oh I dunno, three commercials? However, I like both Macs and PCs. And anyone that hates a PC is either extremely unfamiliar with it or just too f***ing stupid and incompetent to use one. So imo, people should stop hating PCs just because they don't use them. I'd like to club the ignorant half of these people that commented with my dick.

LINUX for life anyone. LOL windows is domed (and sucks) look at the end result you can get a machine these days with linux (online at DELL or in a retail store) cheaper than you can with windows installed point proven thats why my desktops and loptops run UBUNTU, SABAYON, MINT or any other distro and the sad part is that it's FREE did EYE say that FREE yes so to all you overpaying your life away to closed source open tour eyes and live life the way it was ment to be. Love to all, and by the way come over to the side of LINUX, free open and safe what more do you want.

These ads are actually pretty good advertising. There are a lot more regular folks than the "cool kids" that Apple pretends their customers to be. Win software may be big, fat and bloated, but that's because it has features that boneheads need--and there are a lot of boneheads.
