Sep 22 2008I Want A Mirror Background On My Monitor

This is old. And sadly hilarious. I can't believe poor Wekweti can even use a scanner. In case you haven't noticed, it's stupid people day here on Geekologie.
How turn computer monitor into mirror? [yahooanswers]
Thanks Roberto, but it will work if I take a picture, right?

Just scan your ass instead...then your monitor will simulate a mirror just fine.

Maybe I'm just a big idiot, but would it be possible to somehow rig it so that you're webcam somehow gave you a live-feed on your desktop? That would probably be as close to a mirror as you could get.

I reckon this person could have been excluding the possibility of idiots answering with the suggestion that he could scan a mirror,
Or smart people doing the same thing for humerous purposes.
Still, funny, in a roundabout way.

not to easy but, Write a program that interfaces with windows and a web cam software to display the input of a web cam behind the icons on your desktop. then point the web cam towards your face and turn it on. tada... you see yourself..

I think this is what Wekweti is trying to accomplish... http://www.freewarepalm.com/misc/yamp-yetanothermirrorprogram.shtml

I've learned to turn just about anything into a mirror...but not a computer. You'd have to be pretty vain if you wanted to stare at yourself while typing on the computer.

Everyone seems to think the op wants to do this for vain reasons. Did anyone think about the option that maybe the op wants to be able to see behind themselves while working at the computer?

Actually this has been done..in a way. My wife, a technology reporter, was shown a TV at the Philips offices in Silicon Valley a couple of years ago. When turned off the TV screen became a fully reflective mirror.
In fact, it looks like 5 year old technology.

Um, actually you can just set your background color to solid black. Most screens are reflective enough that as long as there is no picture you can see a reflection in them (better under certain lighting conditions).

i would probably just use a webcam and put a mirror in front of it then set the video as my background (joke) but it really can be done with a web cam its pretty easy her is for wondows http://www.desktoptakeover.com/forum/index.php?topic=5.0 and ubuntu http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-934561.html

The questions isnt to stupid. We actually ordered a mirror"screen" at work that you put infront of at ordinary monitor. The mirror reacts to the light on the screen and creates the mirror effect when its totaly dark on the screen. That way its possible but not the screen itself.
