Aug 19 2008Yummy!: Krispy Kreme Makes Grass Sandals

Krispy Kreme, best known for their heart-stoppingly delicious glazed donuts is now making grass sandals. Wait, what?
Krispy Kreme questioned over 1,000 UK workers and found that over half (53%) of urbanites believe their stress levels are affected by a lack of contact with Mother Nature. In response to the problem Krispy Kreme has created the world's first grass flip-flops to bring summer magic to the city - giving stressed out workers a (literal) spring in their step by creating an instant grassy park underneath their feet regardless of their urban location.
Each sandal has over 5,000 blades of grass and can last up to 4 months if properly watered and cared for. I'm getting a pair, I'll let you know how they work out.
UPDATE: The neighbor let his dog shit on my freaking sandals and didn't even pick it up. So when he goes on vacation this weekend I'm putting the end of a garden hose in one of his basement windows and flooding it. Glazed donut flip-flops FTW!

Thanks Crystal, I saved the last donut for you.

So are they making mini lawnmowers to go along with them?

I wonder if they will make an underwear version, complete with crab-grass?

You know this is a joke, right?
4. Amaranth - August 19, 2008 12:07 PM
that is the most design flawed thing I ever seen, epic failure on their part. can't believe they got so much money to waste on something so stupid.

#1 Just use a beard trimmer or something...you can do it!
If this is real, then it's just a bit strange...a bit unlike KK to do this...but there are stranger things.

I have a pair, they are freaking amazing. I use scott's turf builder. They are way more green and full than my neighbour's flops. he's completely jealous.

Well my dog already eats grass from the backyard and chews my sandals as it is. So this is essentially the greatest dog treat every made!!!

C'mon you lot, this is so obviously the biggest load of PR toss I've ever seen. A lame-ass attempt to get some media coverage for donughts dripping in sugar and fat - happy coronary heart attack!

i don't care if they're real or fake. just the thought of these makes me so excited. if i could constantly feel cold grass under my feet i'd be in heaven. i may quit my job today to run around in the grass now.

@12... i agree that cold grass feels great on the bottoms of my feet. but i doubt that after a couple hours of having these on your feet that the grass will still be cold.
how about having nice, warm, humid, green-stained feet by the end of the work day instead?

Nice. Krispy Kreme and grass beneath your feet... Heaven.
Hell for those 5,000 blades of grass under your damp, stinking feet.
Four Months?

Do the blades taste like donuts?
16. Hunter - August 19, 2008 6:19 PM
As long as the sprinklers don't make the grass all soggy and gross, then I'm all for it!

...
This is odd...
Even though I love the feel of grass on bare feet, they look ridiculous. This is honestly the last thing I expected from Krispy Kreme...

I can feel it now...

Great idea, but obvious design flaw . It's cool grass you want, not humid. Real grass ain't gonna fly. HOWEVER, maybe some clever little person can figure out a way to make the concept work. Anyone got any bright ideas right now as to what the actual grass could be replaced with? What stays cool under pressure & humidity (other than Chuck Norris)?

#20:
Chuck Norris? Oh, damn. Then I'm out of ideas.

This idea has been around for a while. KK didn't come up with it. I've seen it before in several design magazines, and featured in places like the EvaSolo catalog and the Nani Marquina catalog.
