Aug 13 2008Wicked Fountain Makes Things Out Of Water!
This is an awesome fountain that can make words and dolphins and rings and lightning bolts and all kinds of other awesome designs using water. It's really freaking neat and you should watch it all. The only thing that could have made it better is if, instead of regular water, they used the water left over from boiling hotdogs. Mmmm, hotdog water.
Thanks to Gregg, who can actually do this pissing.

First? whatever...
Nice! I'd like to see it mixed with dyes that can be lit up with lasers to glow in the dark more.

There's a company called Programmable Rain that makes these. Jeep has had one in their pavilion at the Detroit Auto Show several times over the years. One of the folks from PR described designing the show as working with 8-bit graphics. Very cool stuff.

Pretty neat. Perhaps they're just ordinary footprints, but around 3:27 those look an awful lot like the GNOME logo...

That's impressive. I like the inverted imagery. Those are some complex designs considering how they're formed. Hot dog water or bacon grease would have been something, or possibly carbonic acid to deter anyone who wants to touch it.

Being an architecture student this is fascinating! Also for the Geekologie people do you guys have a contact email for me? Thanks

They used this technology for a Jeep ad(or something like that) not long ago. I'm sure somebody can help me remember what the hell it was.
Pretty cool stuff ..... but can it write its name in the snow?
I can.

I lol'd @ the Japanese tourist saying "Welcome...to...Canada" when it totally didn't say "Canada". The heavy accent was also giggle-worthy.

Welcome to 5 years ago. Like #2 said, Jeep has had one on display at the Detroit Auto Show for the last few years.

It doesn't seem like it would be too dificult to make one for personal use.

They could do this in 3d. THAT would be impressive.
This further supports that software systems can make boring things like fountains unimaginably awesome.

They had this at the Kohler booth for the International Home Builder's Show three or four years ago as well. It's pretty awesome. I mean, the Kohler booth is like the Taj Mahal of convention booths already, this totally put them in the stratosphere compared to the other fixture companies.
