Aug 8 2008Walking With Dinosaurs: The Live Experience

Remember that BBC series Walking With Dinosaurs that featured CG dinosaurs wandering around eating and killing each other? Yeah, the one you'd get good and high before watching. Well now it's a live show, and it's coming on a 2-year tour of the U.S.! Maybe even to a city near you. Oh happy day!
Fifteen roaring, snarling "live" dinosaurs mesmerize the audience and are awe-inspiring as when they first walked the earth. The stars of the show include Tyrannosaurus Rex, Utahraptor, Stegosaurus, and the largest of them, the Brachiosaurus, which is 36 feet tall and 56 feet long from nose to tail. The show depicts the dinosaurs' evolution spanning their entire 200 million year reign. The history of the world is played out with almost cinematic realism, including scenes of the daily interactions between dinosaurs. you will see how carnivorous dinosaurs evolved to walk on two legs, and how the herbivores fended off their more agile predators.
Okay, I know what you're thinking, "Wow, animatronic dinosaurs, big freaking deal. I don't even have kids to take." Well if that's what you thought you're clearly missing the point here. Which, obviously, is this: Sex. with. dinosaurs! Just saying, without a time machine it might be the best chance you've got.

I saw this last year in Spokane. Really cool show, the actors inside some of the dinosaurs were amazing. Not easly impressed and this show got a few "Holy Crap"s outta me. Its played out in normal arena so Im daring someone to streak!

Oh man, it would be great to streak across the arena. When they arrest you, just tell them it wasn't historically accurate (They might tell you humans weren't around, but don't believe them).

I saw this show last year when it came to Canada. I have to say that I was incredibly impressed. The level of detail on the dinosaurs was unbelievable. The scale of a few of the dinos was insane - easily 30+ ft high.
And if anybody does pull of a streak, make sure you get it on camera - a giant T-Rex chasing a tiny naked man would be hilarious!

Uh, it's been on tour for a while. I saw it in Portland back in January. It's definitely geared towards kids but I enjoyed it.

Um...this post is dandy and all but it's missing one vital piece geekologie writer...and the piece involves pot and smoking it with dinosaurs if you catch my drift

I was in this show....no, no...I made the dinosaurs and then was in the show....no wait, I invented dinosaurs, made them and then was in the show. I also had a bowel movement and nobody even noticed.
I actually want to walk with Hugh Hefner. It would be like walking with dinosaurs but instead of the jungle we would walk thru the Playboy mansion and Hugh would give me a couple of bunnies.

I caught this over a year ago in Atlanta. Really cool show. Far better than I would have expected from oversized puppets.

Am I the only one that remembers this exhibit when it came out 20 years ago? I know for a fact that the Houston Museum of Natural Science and The Field Museum had it because my parents took me to both.

I saw this in Winston Salem, NC. I highly recommend getting as close as possible. I was looking down on a lot of the dinosaurs from where I was sitting. The only real exception is when the Brachiosauruses come out and get up close to people in the higher seats. For 2-3 minutes those are the best seats in the house. I'll admit I felt like a nerd for going by myself, but it was well worth it if you've ever loved dinosaurs.

#20.] I was just thinking how bummed I am that I missed it in Winston! Now my only choice is to see it in Raleigh in October =/
I wish I had 70 bucks per ticket to see this, geez. At least the Raleigh show has complimentary State Fair tickets included in the price.
22. Ben - August 9, 2008 2:35 PM
#21]. The higher up seats are cheaper than the floor seats. But if you really want the best experience you need to pay for floor seats and as soon as possible before they fill up. TRUST ME. IT'S WORTH IT. Especially if you're going to get something else for it. All I got was the ticket to see it.
I tried getting friends to go, but it was difficult for us to get organized. If you can get friends to go with you that's great, but if not you should go anyway.

You can watch the entire end of the show if you look up "Walking with the Dinosaurs" on youtube. There's a good 8-minute clip.

Those dinos with the people in, bottom right...
Two words... best friggin fancy dress costume everr
25. DinoSaurus - August 10, 2008 12:58 AM
I wish they'd just remove those supporter things, I mean, if there's a way to make them walk around without it, then much much better. :D And what if the guys on dino costume wear it facing backwards so that their legs would not protrude? They just have to practice moving around backwards. :P
