Aug 14 2008Taj Mahal: Largest LEGO Set Ever Created

Dwarfing even the 5,195 piece Millennium Falcon, comes LEGO's newest, and largest, set ever: The Taj Mahal. Weighing in at 5,922 pieces, the $300 set ships mid September. But the thing that gets me is that it's only 20" wide and 16" tall. That's not very big.
The famous Taj Mahal palace of India is known all over the globe for its incredible beauty and elegance. Now you can recreate this modern wonder of the world for yourself! Designed for experienced builders, the LEGO Taj Mahal model features advanced building techniques, rare elements and colors, and realistic details of architecture. With over 5,900 pieces, the Taj Mahal makes an awesome addition to any LEGO collection!
As I'm sure many of you know, Taj Mahal is actually a mausoleum built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his favorite wife. Touching, I may build this set in remembrance of a favored pet. But the wife -- Pfft -- she'll be lucky to get a DUPLO grave marker.

the taj mahal was built by a mughal (muslim) emperor, not an indian emperor. The nation was later split into India (the hindu area) and Pakistan (the muslim area).

Shit, this sure doesn't seem to cost 300 bucks. Looks cheap as hell to me and the real thig is f***ing gorgeous!

I must say, as far as epic things look, the Millennium Falcon definitely looked better. If this set were about 30% bigger (or a bit more), then it'd be more impressive, but alas, that's not the case.
Writer: hah, you always make me chuckle.

5900 pieces? looks life half the kit is pre moulded parts built just for the kit. kinda crap when you cant use half the blocks for anything else.
what happened to the days of using 10 different pieces to build anything.

I think it looks f***ing gorgeous actually, but then it's just a building, and like Tom Hanks says in Big, what's fun about playing with a building?

yeah but you should see it in person! those parts are not really specific to the set if you look really close.

Dear M
The Blog asked for the comments based on the thing described and not on the history of real Tajmahal.
Please dont take pride on everything.
Dear All
The Lego Set is quite beautiful, but the top should have a smooth surface so as to increase the essence of TAJ.

I am not impressed at all. I've seen a Lego aircraft carrier, as well as the Lego Millenium Falcon (collector's edition). The way I can see the Lego blocks on the surface of the Lego Taj Mahal, I would say it's smaller than the Lego MF or AC.
15. ichigo - August 16, 2008 7:37 PM
perhaps the blocks are smaller? hmmmm?

The new Lego 10189 Taj Mahal dwarfs everything that has been available commercially before.
Building it was a small challenge to my four boys, 13 to 81/2 years old, but once started, they could not stop and built it up within just seven hours.
Amazingly, not even one of the tiny parts missing, even a few left over
It's a real beauty. I can't stop admiring.
A light mounted inside makes it a small jewel!

it is huge

Its HUGE if you see it in person. I'm building it myself, and, anyway, I don't like to play with Lego sets, so its perfect for me.
I've never seen the Milleneum Falcon - how big is it?
