Aug 18 2008Kids Add Audio Systems To Their Bikes

bike-system-1.jpg

A group of immigrant teens from Trinidad that now live in Queens, New York call themselves the Stereobike crew and add bad-to-the-ass audio systems to their bicycles. Systems that put the boombox I keep in my front basket to shame. The speakers, powered by car batteries and run through amps, output thousands of watts, capable of rattling the paint clean off my Prism. Just imagine, when these kids are old enough to drive and start buying their own cars -- they're gonna get broken into and their stereos stolen.

Hit the jump for several more pictures.

deaf much..

wow...

frist!!

damn, so close too

Those things must really cut down on the gas mileage. Not very aerodynamic.

These kids look Paki to me sans the towel on the head.

That's ghetto man...

How the hell do they chain all their junk down so as it won't get stolen? Do they lock their bikes up in a super secret/safe place? Those are pretty big I must say.

Hello, migration department? That's right, you just need to follow the slow moving noise that resembles some Latin American folk. Yeah, have your nets and stunt guns ready.

Shit is gangsta

5.: Indian looking blokes get around. There are a lot of them in West Indies.

SOUNDSYSTEM TEK OVER! SLKTR PULL UP DI PEOPLE!

damn latinos and their gasolina and what not. damn indians and their high pitched flutes. cant live with em, cant live without em. id like to see a disaster video involving one of these bikes.

i wonder where they stole all the speakers and amps from...

@4 Gas mileage? wtf? i hope thats a joke...

foolish.

of COURSE it's foolish: what worthwhile endeavor isn't? for someone into both people-powered solutions and ridiculously large sound, this is not so much transportation as it is entertainment.

A sad day for New Yorkers everywhere...

seriously, like their going to needs thousands in watts of sound. Besides, what are they even going to play ? A crazy asian screaming as usual ? Why have they even done this ? this is pathetic.

Yes, that's JUST what New York needs - more noise. And more brownies.

I got mugged for a F'n cell phone. I can only imagine the delight the crackheads will have when they see a couple kids riding around on these.

That is bangin', literally.

WOW just f***ing WOW ! yea i was born in Ny and theres some pretty shady people there that will rob you for a pair of sneakers. These retards better not ride through the wrong place at night. I REALLY HOPE THEY DO THOUGH. So they can learn a valuable life lesson if they dont end up dead that is. and i wonder how hard it is to pedal + uphill ! i myself have a system in my "CAR" i guard it with my life i park next to my window always have my alarm on. I dont know how you throw thousands of dollars on a f***ing a bike why not save that money and buy a damn car stupid idiots ! this post made me really angry if i knew where these kids were i'd seriously find them and jack them for their bikes !

i bet there made of cardboard with only a little pair of plug in speakers inside

What an incredible waste of money. These are the same idiots who want wealth redistribution. Morons!

how long does that car battery last without an engine to keep it charged? a few minutes?

That's a waste of pedal power.

This is a dumbassed idea... But hey, if they want to be deaf and have their stuff stolen, more power to them...

Heavy??

I live in Queens. So If I see one of these kids (Wo probably live in Elmhurst or Jackson Heights just by the types of apartments shown in the pictures) I'll laugh at them then steal their bike. So If any NYkers see an obese kid riding a Stereo bike through NY and panting like he had sex with bigfoot. Thats me.

Man, I thought those bikes were idiotic and obnoxious until I saw the comments posted in response. The level of brain power on display in these comments makes these kids look like subtle intellectuals by contrast.

Right on with #28 on the comments here. Kind of amazing, the difference between the comments here about young people of color and the comments about a Dutch artist doing something similar. Except that these kids' task was clearly more challenging, and the result more interesting in terms of satirizing car culture and playing with social space.

To the person who wrote #5: you're the reason that people like you get jumped. There was historically a large number of South Asians who went/were taken to Trinidad by the British colonial regime to work in the plantations, so at present, 40.3% of the population identifies as 'Indo-Trinidadians.' That's why they "look Paki," you ignorant chump.

If that Dutch car is art, these are masterpieces. A lot of hatred for kids that are smarter and more stylish than you all.

@ 29...

I should punch you in the twat for thinking these kids have any style or intelligence. You're sad and unimportant history lesson of the "Paki's" shows your a terd-filled bag of douchefarts.

Last!

@31 Not anymore Biatch!

Booya!

I agree with #28 and 29. Commenters here don't even know in what context these bikes were built. I doubt they go out with them every day and maybe they're not even real, maybe it's just a prank and we're being fooled.
