Aug 26 2008How To Slow Down Speeders In China

speedbump-1.jpg

This is how local authorities decided to combat speeders on the Jing Zhuang highway in ShanXi province, China: with two 100 foot long, 2 foot high barriers that require motorists to slow down and wind their way through the passage. Hey, you know what else discourages speeders? Cutting their brake lines. Because then they can only go as fast as they feel comfortable hitting a tree. My wife sure as hell doesn't speed anymore. Or even drive for that matter. You see, she's dead. *sobbing*And the sad part is *sniffle* I hate cooking for myself.

Jump for one more picture of the foolproof anti-speeding deterrent.

FIRST!!!

i need one of these in my kitchen, between the sofa and the fridge.

Oh, and I love all the black marks on the sides from where people have hit it.

they could have saved some concrete and poured out some speed bumps instead?

That would be a nightmare being hammered and driving home.

Brilliant.

#4: I don't think concrete's an issue. This is much more comfortable for the drivers (i guess), and it keeps the speed much more at a constant low. And the bigger your car, the slower you go.

However, I don't think these are for longer stretches, where you actually would have a concrete issue.

I might even check up on these. I might. Like...tomorrow or something.

Man, buying a cheap, beat-up ricer and racing through that would be fun as hell.

I would like to see a truck try to plow that road in the winter!

Don't they usually just shoot people who speed in the head?

you are a sick dude geekologie writer

it's a HOAX

there's no speeders, they all drive 10 under the speed-limit with their blinkers on...

#9 They used to, but then all this bullshit politicians said it was immoral.

Am I the only one seeing that in the second picture there is a truck entering at one end, and there seems to be a motorcycle heading towards them the opposite directon?

I give you to, fine people of the jury, exhibit 1:

@13 - I dont think that truck is entering. Look at the first pic, those same 2 trucks seem to be just parked there.

They have something like this in the town I live in now, except it's concrete planters that force you to swerve back and forth across the road, thus keeping your speed down. However, they didn't install all that many after the first fire on a road which had them. The Firetruck was too long to weave through the obstacles, so they stood down the street and helplessly watched the fire burn.

Hope China has better luck with it than we did!

#8, dipshit, they don't get snow falls there...

Those would be fun in my Porsche!

And by "Porsche" you mean your 1984 Dodge Omni.

or 1986 Chrysler Cavalier?

@5, I'm pretty sure that track layout is the exact path hammered drivers take anyways, so it might be a plus, haha.

Must be fun coming up to this thing in the middle of the night. There aren't even any reflectors on the front.

what if its a hover car D:

@20: Or his Chevy Cavalier! Ya know, because those actually exist.

What's with the little road down the side of it? Why didn't the motorcycle in picture 2 not go down that tiny lane?

what if someone's having a big emergency like they need to get someone to the hospital fast?

@26
Then you have to take the bus.

This is not a two lane road. Do they have to take turns? Is there another lane that also has an obstacle course? Can't a person speed all the way up to it, slow down through it and then speed up again?

I feel these questions/ this traffic solution should be turned over to either a Critical Thinking 101 class or to the Iraqi Camel Jockey Association to whom this would seem high tech.

A teeny bit extreme, no?

@24, or his 2008 Ferrari! LOLOLOL!.....Doh!

they're probably just going to go speeding off after they pass that road block

@13 if you look closely there's a guy in the back of that truck handing stuff off/to the other truck so it's probably workers.

Now the black marks are one thing but does anyone else notice that the top half of some spots is completely worn away? Oh and this is only for 100 feet at a time so concrete isn't an issue.
The issue is the shitty construction putting the concrete up. Does any else see the complete lack of a straight line on the outer edge?

I'd love to see someone buy a crappy car and just park it in the middle, doubt a tow truck could get in there to tow it

18-wheelers are gonna luuuuuuv this.

I know some skateboarders would wax the crap out of that and that would be heaven for them.

It appears as though a truck full of hay made an attempt and failed. As was said before, all the black marks tell the story.

Hay truck jackknifes on the I-Squiggly Jigger: News at 11....

I-Squiggly Jigger

A good look at Chinese efforts to reverse engineer San Francisco.
