Aug 28 2008Another Day, Another Winged Cat

Another day, another cat sprouts wings.
A tabby from the Qingyan province in China recently sprouted a pair of fur-covered wings on his back during a hot-weather spell, the U.K.'s Daily Mail reported.
One cat owner, identified only as Feng, claimed her pet's wings were the result of stress from too many females desiring to mate with him, the Mail reported.
F***, now I'll never grow wings.
Hit the jump for a picture of Feng's winged cat (a different one) from a while ago, and a link to its story.

I reckon it's the same story being rehashed with a different pic. Especially since this pic looks like someone's holding out the cat's tail and right rear leg.
Also, since this cat is supposedly male, it's doubly rare for being a male calico.

The cat in the top pic is a calico, not a tabby. Also, calicos are almost always female (the black color is on one x chromosone, and the orange is on another, so a male calico would have to be XXY)
I call shenanigans.

I may be violating some kind of unwritten thread law by commenting on someone so far up the list, but here goes.
#3 God may kill kittens when you masturbate... but he only horribly genetically mutates them when you don't do it right.
Too much?
Too much.
/sorry.

Soooo...what's with all the cats in Asia sprouting gnarly fur-matted wings? IS it something in the smoggy air? A physiological response to the intense desire not to become stir fry? We may never know....

memo to china: give your cat a fcuking bath already!

I could do this to my cats, all you need is some glue and a buzzer. Glue cats hair together in a line near the skin, buzz up and voila! kitty angel, or you could just not and pretend you did, so when the ASPCA comes knocking on your door with abuse accusations you can deny everything/ show off your photoshop skills to the 3 people who care on the interwebs.....

A winged cat? Sure! Another 'first' from the land where gymnasts too young to compete in the Olympics age three years during the opening ceremonies. (Why, one day they're 13, and the next day, they're 16. They grow up so fast!)
But who wouldn't believe the cat story -- besides anyone with a brain? People do use Photoshop in China. But these pics don't look even that sophisticated. In the second one, the 'wings' are obviously pieces of something -- another cat, perhaps? (I don't even want to go there) -- being held in place for the photo op. Funny how these oddity pics are always from only one angle -- never any additional side or top views that might disprove deception. This is worse than that bogus 'bigfoot' story.
China is where all these 'missing-link' fossils are found -- that later turn out to have been assembled from the bones of at least three different animals.
Next week, there should be a fossil winged cat for the gullible to gawk at. Or perhaps x-rays -- Photoshop works on any digital image.
Or -- just maybe -- it's true: Cats and birds have a common ancestor. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you... the catbird! The 'stress' it experiences must be from chasing itself all the time.
PLEASE!!!!
By the way, a better explanation than 'stress' would be those cats ate some of that plastic-laced pet food that China tried to unload on the U.S. a while back.

My thoughts exactly!

32. sparklinglime - September 2, 2008 7:06 PM
the first one's "wings" have got to be it's tail and right rear leg...
33. Sarah - October 19, 2008 7:23 AM
They could be six-legged cats. They featured some animals with six legs on Ripley's a while ago.
34. Wax Weathers - December 17, 2008 6:06 PM
I've heard of a certain type of skin disorder in cats that causes them to grow these "wings"... I'm just not sure what it's called, but it is a skin disorder.
35. Wax Weathers - December 17, 2008 6:09 PM
I got it... it's called feline cutaneous asthenia (FCA).
