Jul 7 2008Kinetic Ball Sculpture At The BMW Museum

Okay so I've been sitting here playing Bomberman on FireNES and pretending those sick, sick women were the enemies in the game. It wasn't working so I went outside and cut down one of my asshole neighbor's trees. Now I'm feeling a little better, but not much. I figured I'd try and post a nice soothing video to make up for that last one that undoubtedly left you permanently scarred.

This is a video of a kinetic ball sculpture in the recently reopened BMW museum in Munich. It has some elevator music playing in the background that'll either put you to sleep or make you want to kill those Star Wars murderers depending on how you feel about ultra-light jazz. Each of the sculpture's 714 metallic balls is held up by string and moves to create some pretty cool looking effects. The last fifteen seconds are the best though, when the balls come together to take the shape of a car. Way to go BMW. Now if you could just spend a little less time playing with your dangling marbles and a little more getting my driver's-side door to open, we'll be all set.

Hit the jump to see a picture of a car the sculpture sometimes makes.

Thanks Ryan and Romeo, I'm feeling a little better now. I'm still gonna make my wife watch that Star Wars video when she gets home while I clean my gun, but I do feel better.

LAST!

But seriously though, it reminds of one of those things with thousands of pins, that you can use to make metallic imprints of your hands/face/whatever.

yea i cant get those sick girls out of my head im just hoping that some how its fake ..... like the wanted video

I just closed my eyes, listened to the music, and pretended it was hardcore porno. It was 5000 times more entertaining that way.

That's really nice. I like it in a similar way to my liking for Russian food.

did anyone else see a 20's era car at about 1:08? it makes me wonder if there are more car images scattered throughout that we don't see in the video b/c of the angles.

That sculpture reminds me a lot of myself. Some balls attached to string and wrapped inside my wife's purse.

#7- oh snap!
this bored me to death! maybe its just the a.d.d but that was surely a waste of time

I thought it was pretty damn cool, but now I need a nap... maybe some better music?

I wonder if it was built with Jewish slave labor ?

(like their other products)

"Recently opened museum"

I remember going there in 1992. Perhaps I inadvertently travelled into the future.

I kept expecting to hear, "We are experiencing heavy call volume at this time. Please continue to hold. We appreciate your patience, and will be with you shortly."

This is the same museum with the 'GINA car, isn't it? I wonder what other technologically advanced and yet utterly impractical designs they've got there?

My guess is a liquid metal shapeshifting concept motorcycle with thousands of shiny ball bearings embedded in the tires.

@10

BMW built the pyramids?!?

The museum reopened recently.
The installation morphes between shapes of classic and current beemers. Inbetween there is some math-based forms, which the filmmakers have decided were just a tad more interesting to show. Duh!

I think it's a really cool visual interpretation of BMW's brand .

LAST!

Nice work
