Jul 17 2008DeWalt Edition M-16 Is Power Tooltastic

Kidding, it's not really a DeWalt edition rifle, it's just an M-16 some guy modded to look like one. Apparently, it's supposed to look like a nail gun.
I'd just picked up a new (to me) M-16 and was in the process of fixing it up a little. It needed new furniture anyway, so I sourced the safety yellow stock, guard, and grip. Then, I went down to the DeWalt factory service place a few miles from the house to get a sticker. There, I saw they had brand new battery casings, so I picked up one of those too. I got home, found a short magazine , and got to work.
Yeah buddy, that's what I'm talking about. I freaking love modded weapons (except these ones) and even dabble in them a little myself. Like when my wife was at work today I modded a bazooka to look like her hair dryer. Anybody want to go out for coffee tomorrow morning, say around 8:00?
UPDATE: Added more pics after the jump.

Wow, guys who own assault rifles are really making up for something. That guy must have the world's smallest penis.
2. Popadopolis - July 17, 2008 5:41 PM
Hey now, Imaginary Reviewer... he also lives near a Dewalt factory... which also means he's a hick. A hick with a small penis.

LMAO, I can imagine a world of armed construction workers shooting nails and bolts at sky scrapers

this would be cool if it was a air softgun. maybe you could get some good fps. well it looks cool.

@1, only an ignorant asshole would say something that inane. I could waste my time and and explain it all to you, but it's unlikely I'd change your... uh... mind? Sure whatever. Enjoy your life as a farm animal.
As for the article... stupid thing to do with an expensive rifle. Obviously he has more money than sense.
6. Mcfeely Smackup - July 17, 2008 6:41 PM
#1 may be an idiot, but nothing changes the fact that making a rifle look like a toy is a seriously bad idea.
7. hojo - July 17, 2008 6:52 PM
@6, fair enough.
8. The Imaginary Reviewer - July 17, 2008 6:53 PM
@5 + 6: You guys like assault rifles, eh? What is it about them that does it for you? The long, glistening black shaft? Rubbing your fingers all the way down that not-at-all-phallic-in-any-way pole? Holding something big and powerful in your hands? Going down on your brother 'just to see what it's like' before telling everyone around you how much you hate gay people? Get out of the closet, boys.
9. hojo - July 17, 2008 7:10 PM
@8, I like assault rifles, and weapons in general because I believe that part of being a responsible adult is being able to defend yourself your family, and when it comes down to it, your country. Someone who lets other people take responsibility for their lives is called a child.
I will however give you props for the homo-erotic imagery. You really seem to have a knack for describing gay sex acts. ...not that you spend a lot of time thinking about that sort of thing...

Jeebus, guys, give it a rest, will ya? Some people like guns. Some people don't like guns. And some people are gay. Some are not. This doesn't change the fact that you are both douchbags. QED.
As far as the gun goes... neat trick. Do a Milwaukee next!
12. hojo - July 17, 2008 7:48 PM
@10, who? me? No, but your mistake does not offend me. Your name however, does confuse me. Suzy doesn't seem like a male name, but then there's the blue balls... Are you a transvestite?
13. hojo - July 17, 2008 7:53 PM
@11, the fact that you like that piece of crap does more to discredit you than I could ever do with a post. Also, by jumping into the fray, you've become a douchebag yourself. Q.E.D.
14. suzy blue balls - July 17, 2008 7:53 PM
first of all suzy can be a male name. i am a female, but i am named after my father. Suzy. and i take back my comment @ you. i think youre cute.
would you like blue balls?

Hojo: Indeed, it's been fun. Let's agree to disagree. You like guns, I think they're unneccessary (and unneccessarily phallic). I've got to say, I don't think I've enjoyed a Geekologie post as much as this, ever.

Assault rifles are unnecessarily phallic? Would you prefer them to be vagina-shaped? Cause that'd be a real effective design...
Gee, maybe it has more to do with the purpose? You know, function over design?
Rifle: requires a long barrel to project bullets beyond it.
Hose: requires length and a nozzle to project water beyond it
Spear: requires a point and a long shaft to impale and project damage beyond it
Penis: requires a long shaft and a head to impale and project semen beyond it.
Some people require firearms as tools for protection and survival just as a jacket protects you from the cold. Others simply enjoy them just as others enjoy playing instruments or sports. So I think I'll judge for myself what's unnecessary for myself and you judge what's unnecessary for yourself.
20. WOW OMG!!! - July 17, 2008 10:59 PM
M4. IT IS AN M4. NOT AN M16. It really isn't that hard to see the differences!. Look at the stock and the foregrip. M4s have a retractable stock while M16s have a full stock. M4s have a very short foregrip while M16s have long ones. Sorry for the rant, but considering we have using the M16 since Vietnam, you'd think people would know by now.

Looks like an M4 to me too. It's the 'handy' M4. ;-)

28. Mason - July 18, 2008 10:43 AM
Wow...kinda cool I guess...but why? I'm sure you'll get interesting looks at the range with that thing.
I find it funny how all these people who have some sortof paranoid phobia of firearms try to equate the owners to being gay rednecks with penis envy. I have an assault rifle. If someone wants to mess with my family they will get what they deserve. For the anti-gun people, have fun laying down and enjoying having all your possessions taken and your wives/children reaved.
29. Odysseus - July 18, 2008 11:16 AM
@dr venkman.
his first configuration with the really short barrel is a Class3 firearm (restricted) so I'd bet that it is a true full auto considering he has a Class3 license.
30. Popadopolis - July 18, 2008 11:24 AM
I need to get myself a gun... I mean, I haven't had one all my life. No seriously, I live in the US and I have never owned a gun. And in my short life, I have been robbed 17 times and widower(ed?) 6 times. That's right, I've had all of my stuff taken away from me 17 times. And my wives have all been raped and killed. My children were sodomized and then stabbed to death. How I've gone so long without a gun is just beyond me... I think I need to go buy a Dewalt Ruger.

The guy would be an idiot to mod a full auto M4. Talk about destroying the value of a $20k+ weapon.
A Class 3 SBR is easy to get. Full auto? Only if you're loaded.

Dont get me wrong i have no problem with fire arms and protecting ones family. I have my restricted and non restricted licence I just think an assault rifle is over the top. Besides nothing beats a double barrel shot gun. And any one afraid of guns is more than welcome to move to my country gun related deaths are a fraction of what they are in the states. But i guess thats what happens when everyones got a assault rifle to "protect your family". Guns are alright in my books, but within reason.
33. Momboelitist - July 18, 2008 12:12 PM
I think it makes perfect sense to not allow law abiding citizens to own firearms. I mean why shouldn't criminals have the upper hand?
I grew up with guns and hunting and think every responsible law abiding citizen should have the right to bear arms. Now, as for assault rifles, I never saw a need for them but I realize that some people like to use them on the range and enter competitive shooting contests.
I do believe that anyone that owns a firearm should take a safety course and know the care, use and storage guidelines.
That was my serious post of the week.
34. This is my BOOM stick - July 18, 2008 1:02 PM

All the gun haters are hypocrites to be looking at this page. If you don't agree then don't be commenting on a page that has a post related to guns. The fact that those who dislike guns post here is amusing because it shows me they like to be drama queens or drama fags.
36. Odysseus - July 18, 2008 1:24 PM
@Dr venkman
I may be mistaken but I think the class 3 allows you to assemble FA weapons also. The receiver on this particular one is an Essential Arms rcvr made in LA which can be purchased with no internals (and then converted to FA) for less than 200 bucks. I have seen conversions like this in my travels.
Also if you look closely, other than the sticker all of those parts can easily be removed and replaced with "evil" black parts. The other rcvr that is completely yellow appears to be a normal semi auto one.
37. Odysseus - July 18, 2008 1:30 PM
@ boomstick
you have a restricted license? So you OWN fully automatic weapons and are a firearms dealer? Cause that's what a restricted license is for. That and selling guns. So you have FA guns but you think assault weapons are over the top?
There is something that beats a double barrel shotgun. An assault rifle.
38. Odysseus - July 18, 2008 1:45 PM
@Boomstick
Oops, I just reread your post. You're not a U.S. Citizen. Canada or the U.K. most likely. So I assume your "restricted" license allows you to own a BB gun. Whatever.
STFU then. You can have all of our liberal douchebags. They'd fit in there and I'm sure they'd be happier.
Europeans will never understand what it means to be an American. They will never understand what we believe and why we believe it. Arguing with you is like arguing with a pig. It just annoys the pig and wastes my time.

This is the greatest weapon ever. If this doesn't accurately encompass manhood in a single object, I don't know what does.
I want one!
41. guate6 - July 18, 2008 3:20 PM
#9: you seem to contradict yourself. You say you want to be able to protect your family and yourself, but you say that you would want to do it with an ASSULT rifle. Assult is not protection, it's assult.
It's neat as a project, but not all that practical to make a real rifle look like a power tool.
42. Odysseus - July 18, 2008 5:00 PM
@41 guate.
The term assault rifle, is what the media uses to demonize certain firearms. (I am even guilty of using the term) The above weapon (especially the one with the short barrel) is a restricted class3 firearm and truly an assault rifle in every sense of the word. The average joe shooter can't own one of those without extensive background checks and expensive taxes and fees. In some states having a class3 license gives the sheriff the right to search your house without a warrant at any time.
The average "assault rifle" is a semi auto sporting rifle that looks like it's military counterpart. Why would someone want that? well, it's light. accurate, easy to use, ammo is cheap/abundant, parts are easy to get, its reliable, the list goes on.
The truth is that there are very few crimes committed with "assault rifles". Why? Someone who's committing a crime wants to draw as little attention to themselves as possible. You can't exactly hide an ar-15 under a t-shirt. As far as taking on the police? Every criminal knows that's suicide.
I understand if you're afraid of guns. Fine. but don't infringe on someone else's right to be free and have the option to defend themselves.
43. mot - July 18, 2008 5:55 PM
I own an assault rifle - not because I need to make up for anything or because I'm a redneck - I simply enjoy killing people.
Over and out.
44. hojo - July 19, 2008 7:06 PM
The founding fathers wanted the citizens to be well armed so that they could overthrow their government if failed to heed the will of the people. That is what the second amendment is about. Taken to it's logical conclusion, they would have wanted citizens to have weaponry comparable to what the government has. I want my fighter jets, missiles and machine guns right now... I can wait on the aircraft carrier :-)
Fortunately for the gun haters, we don't pay much attention to the constitution any more.
45. Amy - July 19, 2008 7:22 PM
Now, I'm not actually gonna bother looking up any statistics here, but I seem to recall that most gun injuries/deaths in the States are caused by the people with the guns for protecting their families, etc, not the home invaders that are apparently hiding in every wardrobe in the country.
@ Odysseus #38: I'm neither American nor European, and I'm not asking you this to gain ammo to ridicule you with or anything: I'm curious to know how you personally define, "what it means to be an American ... what we believe and why we believe it." This rhetoric of specifically American values comes up often, and I'm wondering how citizens of America view their ideals as different to other Western countries (and not just, say, France) in this day and age.
46. hojo - July 19, 2008 7:34 PM
@45. I say this as an American...
There are unfortunately a great many people in this country who believe the hype. America is the great savior that brings freedom to the world, land of the free, home of the brave, ever gallant and heroic. They believe this so strongly that even any evidence that points to the contrary is attacked savagely. There are precious few of us who will call a spade a spade. Unfortunately, for many people, what it means to be an American is that you cheer the loudest as the whole mess goes down the toilet.
I say when your government creates programs with virtually no oversight for spying on its citizens, creates secret courts for administering said programs, disarms citizens whenever possible, deceives them in order to gain their support, and generally treats them as a means rather than a purpose, then it's time to raise a little protest.
I know some will say love it or leave it. This is bullshit frankly. If you really love something you try and repair it when it's broken. Love it and fix it.
47. Pv2 J.S. Eastman - July 19, 2008 11:02 PM
@46
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
"I say when your government creates programs with virtually no oversight for spying on its citizens, creates secret courts for administering said programs, disarms citizens whenever possible, deceives them in order to gain their support, and generally treats them as a means rather than a purpose, then it's time to raise a little protest."
You're d@mn write, I signed up for being treated as a means rather than a purpose, you didn't, so you shouldn't have your rights taken from you. H3ll, that's the only reason I fight.
48. hojo - July 20, 2008 12:46 AM
@46 nice quote.
I hope you never have to choose between your government and your people. It is quite possible the day will come when every responsible and able bodied person will have to bear arms and choose sides.
It sickens me the number of people willing to pretend everything is ok and ignore the elephant in the room.
I found a few good Jefferson qoutes that seem to fit with the (offtopic) direction of this discussion.
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” (Quoting Cesare Beccaria)
The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.

Didn't I say I was gonna stop posting?
50. Bender - July 21, 2008 4:46 AM
Give me one example of a government that has lasted 200+ years and yet is in iminent danger of collapsing, in which case its people need to be armed to the teeth with assault weapons that have no other valid purpose besides looking cool and fighting an armed conflict.
Time's up.
Didn't think so.
The fact is, guns are cool for responsible people, but they need to be recognized for what they are -- deadly weapons. If you don't like them, don't own them. If you love them, buy them, but let us know that you aren't a convited felon or an insane asylum candidate. And anyone who feels the need to attack the opposite position without a decent argument can STFU. You know, you just sound like a douche when you can't make a cogent argument for your position.
51. hojo - July 21, 2008 11:17 AM
