Jul 31 2008Beer Pong Video Game Sparks Controversy

JV Games latest video game title, Beer Pong, has sparked quite a bit of controversy from outraged parents. Why? Because it's a video game about playing beer pong, and received a "T" for teen rating. It's the first in JV's Frat Party Games series (with soon to follow Elephant Walk and Olive Basketball). So you know what JV Games did to get the game out? They changed the name to Pong Toss and removed all the beer-related content. F*** this is stupid. Parents, you do know your kids are banging hookers and killing people in GTA4, right? Probably not, because it's not called GTA4: Banging Ho's and Busting Caps. Anyway, this game may sound horrible, but at least it's not Needle Toss: Riding The H Train. Which, holy shit, is brilliant. Are there Emmys for video games?

Virtual Beer Pong?
Yeah, because I guess acquiring some plastic cups, a ping pong ball, a six pack and some friends is just too much effort.

South Park did it! Although, Needle Toss: Riding The H Train is a better title than Heroin Hero.

Ugh...as a reader from Connecticut, I'm ashamed to say that my state's attorney general, Richard Blumenthal, led the charge against this game. The problem is that both "M" and "A" ratings do not sufficiently account for the U.S. drinking age (21), since you only need to (technically) be 17 to buy an "M"-rated game and 18 to buy an "A"-rated game.

Needle Toss: Riding The H Train- Staring the voices and digital images of: Chris Tucker, Kate Moss, Perry Ferrell, Jason Mewes, Nina Samone, John Travolta, Hanson, Ray Charles, Mickey Mouse, Iggy Pop, Big Bird, and Keith Richards. The game would kick so much ass. You could have parts of the game where a meter goes back and forth between SAFE and DISEASE while the player hits the buttons as fast as they can to keep healthy.

i've seen a lot about his story already, and i'm with the writer. there are so many worse games out there that parents should really be worrying about. here's a thought: if you don't approve of the game, DON'T BUY IT.

Or an even better thought: Parents, uh.. parenting.

besides that fact that you can beat hookers and snipe police officers in gta4. you can also also go to the bar and have a drink... then the game simulates you being drunk (double vision/off balance)... and then you can drive drunk!! so i forgot what my point was but im gonna go play gta4 and bash some drunk hookers.

There's already a Wii game that's actually beer pong; It is on the Game Party disc, and they call it Ping Cup. It's exactly the same thing, though.

I agree, ban the freaking game. Kids should just get sloshed and play drinking games for real. I don't care if they're only in 7th grade. I mean kids who play video games grow up to become gangsters and shoot people, right?

A game featuring red plastic cups?! That is the raddest (and when I say rad I mean it as ironically as possible) thing I've ever seen!

I don't see what the big deal is. Beer Pong does not have to involve alcohol, I've never been to a beer pong event that demanded the players drink alcohol. Many players prefer to play with Beer but I don't think the whole game should be demonized. It's really a harmless way to pass time with friends.
But I do think a beer pong video game is a stupid concept in general =/ you wanna play beer pong? get some friends and play.

Parents and people in general can be such idiots.
What tends to happen is that people ignore pertinent information to their lives until the media decides to start throwing some buzz words around and then the public throws a fit until they move onto the next topic and completely forget about the previous one.
Excellent comparison with Grand Theft Auto.
