Jun 11 2008Office Rampage Video That Was So Awesome Is Indeed Fake, Viral Marketing For Wanted

Remember the bad-to-the-ass office rampage video from last week? Turns out it's fake after all. And if that wasn't bad enough, it was a viral marketing video made by Russian director Timur Bekmambetov to hype his new movie, Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie and James MacAvoy. Good job Timur, you totally had me fooled. And for successfully pulling off the hoax I will now reward you by boycotting Wanted. And not just because I hate being tricked, but because you're an asshole and the movie will probably suck anyways. So Timur, you better pray The Iwatchstuff Writer says that shit is solid fucking gold, otherwise I'm picketing the hell out of the local theater.

I knew it! I had a feeling. It just went on for way to long. There was one point where the guy stopped and just was sort of, "oh crap" I need to break more stuff!" and started going at it again.
I win the bet with the prewife!

FAKE! I KNEW IT. I WIN.

I was hoping it wasn't. I guess that means I can't use the "rage virus" excuse anymore.

how the fuck was that beneficial to the film at all?!
nobody could tell anything about it having any connection to Wanted, why the hell would he do that?

figured it was fake, but as a viral marketing video? wow... someone needs to take their ass back to marketing school

hahaaha! u tell that mofo..

@ 2@2 ...

viral my balls in yo mouth bitch....

what ..yea I said it

actually it works quite well as a viral marketing video because when the video first surfaced there were news stories about it spreading across the internet. Now there will be subsequent news stories saying "yeah remember that video we posted, turns out it was a viral video for Wanted"

Thus, connecting it to the movie and putting the title in peoples faces.

Hey, wait a second.
"you better pray The Iwatchstuff Writer says that shit is solid fucking gold"

Aren't you the iwatchstuff writer? You clever bastard.

#7 is right. It works because the bloggers play along.

Now, if the bloggers simply reported that it was a hoax, viral marketing failed. But as you can see, the Geekologist not only mentioned the movie, but both of its stars. He might as well have added in the release date and MPAA rating while we was at it.

I read the plot summary for this movie on IMDB and I now have this strange urge to stab myself in the eye with a ball point pen.

Exerpt:

"Everyone knows this disengaged slacker will amount to absolutely nothing, and so does he, until he meets the sexy, foxy woman named FOX, and then everything changes. Wes' estranged father is murdered, and the deadly Fox recruits him into The Fraternity, a secret society that trains him to avenge his father's death, by unlocking his dormant powers. And oh boy does he have powers, as she teaches Wes how to develop his lightning-quick reflexes and phenomenal agility, he discovers that The Fraternity lives by an ancient, unbreakable code: to carry out the death orders given by emotionless Fate itself."

...what?

lets see if we can get these comments up over 300....

cuz we're ignorant like that.

Wanted will be one of the worst movies ever. That's so sad, since the comic it's just amazing

how does this market the Movie??

dumb question??

Wow...had me completely fooled up to the point where I was doing the internet flame wars thingie.

Aww man! i thought it was a laugh. So much so that i sen tthe video around my whole office. I suppose now i look like a fool. :(

lol @ boycotting a movie because you got tricked into thinking a viral marketing video was real. I suggest you locate the stick lodged in your ass and remove it.

#11: better idea...OVER 9,000!!!

Eh, the preview for Wanted looked intriguing, but I'm not sure. If Jolie does another nude scene, it may be worth it. We shall see.

This video, as a marketing scheme was not the best of ideas. The trailers should suffice.
