Jun 27 2008Cassette Lamps: Cooler Than 8-Track Lamps

cassette-lamp-1.jpg

Some designers over at Transparent House have come up with a pretty clever way of recycling old cassette tapes. Not as clever as shooting them off your fence from the back porch, but still pretty clever. They're making lamps. That's right, lamps. You know, illumination devices. As you can see from the picture, they cast pretty cool shadows on the walls. But I don't think they're for sale, so if you're interested you'll have to make one yourself. But please, don't be a dipshit and use opaque tapes like I did.

Hit the jump for several more pictures.

I dont really get what thing is, or what fucntion it serves.

why in the last picture are the tapes very small? Are these supposed to be normal walkman like tapes?

All I know is that I want one, but they probably cost about $100+ to make depending on where you buy the tapes at... I may have to check ebay!

I'll definitely have to pick up one for the prewife so I have something to store her in when I'm not letting strangers urinate on her.

A) It's a Lamp
B) It lights up a room

i don't really care if the tapes are an awkward size. the lamp is still freakin cool and i would totally get one if they weren't too too expensive.... the one thing i'm wondering about is...would it overheat? wouldn't the tape in there melt and get all grosS"?

This would be totally easy to make.
Im going to make one...

So they put this together with the tapes inside their cases, right? Otherwise the corners wouldn't square up. I love this idea btw...

Lol to #5... ;).

How do they get all the labels to come off so cleanly?
