May 21 2008Why Didn't I Think Of That?: Resealable Can

Sometimes an invention comes along that is so simple, awesome, and bound to change the world of canned drinking so drastically that you just have to stop and ponder, "Why didn't I think of that?" Well this isn't one of those, but it is can related. Introducing the Resealable Can by Ukranian inventor Johan De Broyer!
You pop the top as usual with this design, and then when you want to re-seal it, you turn the pop top tab and it completely closes up the can again, good as new. The inventor says his invention can create a completely gas-tight and liquid-tight seal. An added incentive toward this idea's adoption is a space on the resealed top for advertising.
Now I know what you're thinking, "I'm a big boy, I can drink a whole can of beer/soda, so why would I ever need to reseal one?" Two words: Because you just peed in it.

Geekologie writer, you hit my thought right on the head. "why would I ever need this? Who can't drink a whole can of soda? What type of stupid invention is this?...." and then your response.....
Now my rebuttal **silence**
Yeah Okay. good point. I need to pick up a case of these pronto.

They need to make a secure one that only the can's owner can unseal Geekologie writer. Then the Superficial Writer will never pee in your drinks again!

Plastic is now know to leach carcinogenic materials into your water... I for one will choose an inert metal compound, over plastic bottles any day.

From a sales stand-point, this will never happen. If you don't finish a whole can you have to throw it out. Thus having 1 less cold can of soda/beer. Thus having to buy another 12 pack sooner than later.
Haven't you guys seen the stride commercials? While these cans certainly won't last forever they will last longer than your average aluminum can.

This seems kind of lame and pointless and will add unneeded cost to manufacturing the cans (BUT THE ADVERTISING WILL COVER IT, RIGHT?)

@4, you don't think aluminum leeches? Everything causes cancer because frankly there's not enough cancer to go around and lets face it, it is quite profitable.
By the way, what if you don't want to reseal the can? What do you do then? Can someone tell me that?!! What in the name of cousin Larrly Aplelton do you do theeeen....? Get your paws off of me you damn dirty ape!!!
OK then, I'm back! So, lets start with the squat thrust...annd down...annd hold it.....

just drink from a glass and you wont have this problem morons

Something they're no taking into consideration: many aluminum cans are lined with tin (Sn). Tin stays on the can fine, doesn't react with food or liquids. But it does react with oxygen. After a while (say, half an hour) the tin has reacted with the oxygen and it can mix with your food/drink. Re-using cans either for food or drink is a bad idea.

First point -- companies will hate this idea because it means that they will sell less product. The more waste the better -- pop another one!
Second point -- now if this guy can invent one that would only let me and only me pee in my can, that I would buy!

HYGIENIC LID
.
- Dear All, in my memo I want to introduce you to my invention HYGIENIC LID, which has only one position comparing to previous. Role of this position (sterile neck) is to prevent that impurity from tin can penetrate into the mouth of consumer while he/she drinks the beverage. Current, more than half a century old solution shows that during drinking of beverage, end user consumes the impurity into the organism, which is unacceptable. By accepting my solution, your company will increase the profit and becomes a leader in lid manufacturing, because guarantee that the consumer is fully protected in hygienic terms, will increase the number of tin can users previously reluctant to use this type of package, thinking they may become sick, due to high possibility that the lid and its edge are dirty, and that this dirt will be entered into organism. Tin can with HYGIENIC LID may be fully recycled, meaning it may be entered onto markets of all continents.
- . I think that due to hygiene concern for end user, consumer’s organizations will require placement of only tin cans with hygiene lid, once they emerge on the market. In terms of price, I think it will be acceptable for end user, in the same manner that it is acceptable to pay more expensive, yet safer car. At the same time, I have to outline the fact that this solution foresees only that the lid manufacturing factory modify lines for manufacturing lids, and that filling may be executed on already existing lines.
Are you able to give me some contact and e-mail address of persons who might be interested, so I would be able to contact them directly.
Whit all great respect
Respectfully
Branko Dokic, dipl.ing

The reseable beverage can is a great idea. It is my understanding that there are several versions being test marketed around the world.
It is my belief that beverage cans containing 12 oz or less of liquid do not need to be resealed as the user ususlly drinks the liquid in one sitting ......... not needing to be resealed in order to save the product for a later time.
The functionality of the device to protect the contents from insects and other debris and to prevent spills is however useful for any size can.
Selfishly, I hope that this innovation is not commercially realized any time soon as I am the inventor of a devise that is applied to a beverage can by the consumer and prevents bees and other insects from entering the can.
My "BugPlug" BeeGuard is uniquely different form others on the market. It was patented in the spring of 2004 and is currently being manufactured by a supplier to the promotional products industry.

Good Luck to you and your product!
