May 20 2008Steve Ballmer Gets Egged In Hungary
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer got egged in Hungary by some student during a speech at Covinus University in Budapest. I'm kind of partial to the helicockter treatment myself, but that's just personal preference. Apparently the kid stands up, screams, "Hey you, Microsoft has stolen 45 million something something somethings from the Hungary people. Give that money back right now!" Then he lets the eggs fly (with absolutely no accuracy). What in the freaking hell is the matter with that kid? First off, he didn't even hit him. And secondly, egging someone is immature and I can't believe a college student would resort to something so juvenile. Grow up and buy some stink bombs already.
Another slow motion video after the jump.
Thanks Andrew, you wanna help me TP a professor's house some night this week?

Well if you look at the first open captioned word that's shown, it's EGY. I think the loose translation is I DRINK YOUR EGGCREAM!!! No wonder Ballmer got SHELLED. He EGGED them on. Damn, it's never as good translated into Hungarian.
Uh, those puns won't get me autobanned, will it?

except for the egg guy, everyone was so polite. i think anywhere he would have been tackled, but the moderator there just says "would you be so kind as to leave" and "very quickly" before chastising him by saying "what were you thinking?"
and i thought canadians were polite.

Wow, classy.
The sad thing is that he's the only person there to support those ideas. And could that t-shirt be more pathertic? If you're going to make a political message at least try not to look like a moron.

You'd think the egg thrower would at least have the sense not to sit in the middle of the aisle so as to make a quick escape.

Hungarians are just uncivilized f***ing steppe raiders. And their language sounds worse than anything you could possibly hear in your life.

I love the awkward exit he had to make as everyone stood up to let him pass.

Damn, and I thought they were all standing up to support him at first.

"Ballmer was in Budapest to announce Microsoft’s leading role and investment in a technology skills training program in Hungary, in partnership with the government and other companies. Later in the day, he also accepted an honorary fellowship from the university, according to Gellos."
I'd say the university is extremely embarrassed over this guy's outburst and if I were Hungarian, I'd be mad as hell. That guy should go work in a coal mine or drive a cab for a living.

Hungarians mostly don't wish to be recognized to be Hungarians, when they get the chance to be in company of admired, rich, western countries citizens. If they are not accepted by them, most turn offensive. That's a national habit accompanied by social envy and self rejection.
Most of them think of America like: "Try to be a part of it, if they reject you, offend it." (That's why Hungary joined the EU.)
This is a justified reaction, but with wrong actions taken. I think, the cake remains delicious even if one's been denied to get a slice of it.
If Balmer would have stopped the "inquisition", then to force the guy to give statement of his opinions and a chance to dazzle the audience with his highly developed IT and business skills during their conversation, I guess, the guy would have licked up the yolk from Balmers' head, if he would've hit.
This poor guy simply realized that nobody joined him, or at least boooh-ed with him at Balmer after the first egg, so he went on with the second and third to save his concept, but then he got confused. (I think he was even thankful for getting stopped. He also might have seen some scenes on Youtube and tried to sample them.) However, finally his "revolution" has been set back.
Nonetheless the guy's been absolutely right with his opinion: the Hungarian state hasn't got the funds to buy the "unreliable" IT stuff from Microsoft, and the only reason they do is, that Microsoft tries to force the whole world, - using their shady business practices - to use their products.
Some Hungarian businesses also suffered outrageous prosecutions of the local BSA. But this is a more complex situation than to discuss about here.
Besides: Hungary is one of those "new" european states, who gives the most capable IT technicians, and engineers as a result of the countries excellent higher education system. LINUX developers are very talented and skilled here, and even the system itself is very popular.
This might even be the reason of Balmers' visit (or should we rather call it "audit"?!)

Just for your information, the reason this guy claims some money were "stolen" and want it back is that hungarian government was kind of forced to sign the contract for the renewal of all MS licenses... there was some effort to change all license from MS to open source, including government organizations & educational institutes, e.g. previusly MS offered op. system, office etc. with _special_ conditions to students & teachers. So if government change from MS to open source, all such license will stop, thus for renewal, government had to pay quite a sum... something like this.

That became extremely awkward as soon as the egg-throwing was done. I can imagine cops jumping on him in the US and everyone freaking, but it was so...awkward. Hahaha... Btw, Mazy, thanks for the info!

Yeah I loved the tactifully placed MacBook. Immature as it may be, it was pretty gosh darn funny! It's a shame that guy's English wasn't better!
Back in my day, we'd just pie Bill Gates!

Thanks for the insight Nitifor. The 2007 GDP per capita in Hungary was $19,500 compared to the average 30,000$ of the "older" EEC members. I'm assuming Microsoft has decided to take advantage of the decisively lower wages in Central and Eastern Europe by outsourcing there. The fact that they are outsourcing is no big news. Microsoft now has its biggest development center in India.
It's a shame Hungary didn't choose Open Source... or was forced to go MS. France decided to switch all of its police, administration and public service to Linux, proof that it is a sustainable option. I wish the best to the people of Hungary.
