May 13 2008GTA4: Liberty City Vs. New York City

These are side-by-side comparison shots of New York City and Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto 4. New York is on the left, Liberty on the right. As you can see, they share some pretty similar architecture. But seriously, all 911 conspiracy theories aside, I couldn't find my favorite hot dog vendor (Ignatius of Paradise Vendors) in the game. I swear, something about those dogs -- so freaking delicious. I think Mr. Clyde may have stumbled upon the holy grail of boiled weenies -- the perfect pig lip to asshole ratio.
Several more comparison shots after the jump, along with a link to the Flickr gallery with them all.

Hate to be a literary weenie, but you wouldn't find Ignatius because he's in NOLA. Just sayin'.

@3, are you sure you live in the "real NYC"? I'm just asking because I was there last week and I don't remember seeing you anywhere.

Actually, the Liberty City Bridge looks more like the Williamsburg Bridge than the Manhattan Bridge pictured in the article.

It's Fortuna playing some video game bullshit. Why must the writer's life be plagued by such deliberate slights of fate?
Worst vendor everrrrr

@13 There actually is a real metropolis. i got put in jail there once for being a drunk without a license. anyway, they are way over the top with it. down at city hall they have a huge statue of clark kent as super man. it was xmas and some geriatric knitted it a santa hat. first thing i saw when i got out of the hooscow. a little further into town i found freaking boulder of kryptonite. lol. big ass rock they painted green in the park. it had a plaqe that said " This kryptonite has been de-ionized for supermans safety"
its right on the state line. since i couldnt get my truck out i was forced to hop a train running south over the river that tricked me into a winter hell in chicago.
bastards.

did you have to go to all that trouble JUST to say the game looks like New York??? You would have to be as stupid as that little ass that goes around here saying "FIRST" all the time to NOT think that the game guys made it look like New York.
If I lived there, I wouldn't be mad at that.
I think it's a wonderful, truthful version of NY that no one should care about.

the point is that it is a faithful reproduction, not that is ismodelled on a city

Let me tell you... Liberty City is nothing like NYC. The cops in the game are competent, and unless you have a rocket launcher to take out the helo's that chase you, you can get busted almost every time.
Also, the dogs don't taste as good. Very chewy. The hookers are cheaper in the game, but are what better at their trade.... it only takes them a few seconds to satisfy the customer.....

New York city looks real.
