Apr 17 2008Wooden Laptops Just Make Good Sense

Wood should be the computer component material of choice. It's lightweight, a great heat conductor, and some of the best processors and video cards are made out of the stuff. Okay, maybe none of those things. Still, wood is cool. And that's exactly what Fujitsu hopes people will think about their new Woodshell computer concept. As you can see, it's a wooden laptop nestled inside a hemp bag. Oh look, the keyboard is green. *sniff sniff* Is that patchouli I smell? I don't know about you, but I'm sold.

Ummm.. Tree supply compared to plastic? I do not know if I should argue that a wooden laptop is a good -or bad- idea.. I just think that the amount of waste using wood vs plastic is questionable. How recyclable is plastic? Once twice? What happens to the wood after 5 years in the landfill? And then the plastic?
How much resource does it take to grow the wood? Petroleum to grow, harvest, and process?
Also the plastic has been processed in such a way that it is quite hard to recycle.
I really do wonder what the [non politicized] answers are to these questions.

#2 guy can be seen on his new reality show on Discovery: Axe Men
He was once quoted to say: "I come from a place where men are men and women are damn glad of it!"

kind of reminds me of the straw space shuttle story they had on The Onion a few years back.

There's pros and cons to both. Wood, of course, is biodegradable but uses tree/forest supply. Plastic uses chemicals to create, but nowadays in recyclable. Most major computer manufacturers offer recycling services, as well as your local community.
BTW, people like #2 guy are the reason the planet has gone to shit. I guess an appropriate response would be NIHILISTS MAKE ME SICK.

Big and ugly... two things that will easily kill this laptops future. Wooden shells for electronics have always been and will always remain a small niche market.

Oh for Christ's sake...I thought I could get away from the nausea inducing Global Warming rabble here. Apparently not. *sigh*
Oh, the computers look lame; that is all.

This is a new era in asshattery.
While I'm computing I can enjoy some salami and cheese.
