Apr 4 2008Sustainable Dance Clubs Aim To Be Greener

Sustainable Dance Clubs are designed to reduce the outside energy needed to get your groove on in a dimly lit room with a bunch of other people grinding "all up on that ass". The first is opening in Rotterdam this weekend and features a dance floor that harvests dancing energy via piezoelectricity. This energy will be used to power the club's LED lighting. Not sure what's powering the speakers, but my guess is magic. Hey, anything that makes the world a little greener is cool in my book. And they could really harvest some serious energy from my wicked moves -- I dance my ass off. Literally, I lost a cheek.
A video explaining the dancefloor and a picture of me after a hard night of partying after the jump.

Thanks to Florian, a member of the elite BerlinMassive, for the tip

Regarding the picture after the video, I think it looks like the guy who made that art exhibit with the bottles and the bags, after he finished (I'd be tired too).
I say it's a great concept, just like in Hong Kong I believe it was where people are wanting to put these things in the walkways to help generate electricity. Brilliant. But like the Solar Panel, an idea that will cost a LOT and take some time to pay for itself in the long run. Either way though, I'm down.
Think of all the possibilities: gyms, wrestling arenas, pretty much anything to do with sports, heavily tourist-ed areas, pretty much any city in China, New York City (Manhattan), oh the possibilities are endless! (proto-)

I will wait for SmokingGirl prior to passing any judgments on this subject. She's probably smoking and having her morning drink.

That last photo looks like the typical aftermath of every pro-[insert any eco, unity, protest, awareness cause] concert I've seen or attended.

Scott, our relationship is moving far too fast for my taste. Sure, a little banter here, a little banter there, but you "waiting" for me? Let's at least get to first base before you start looking forward to my writings.

I do have an opinion on this subject, but I'm going to keep it to myself...for now.

I was wondering how many people wold have to be dancing in order for this to work, and if this dance club would have an alternative source for energy for the people working there after all the little dancers went home.

I hope they don't plan on installing these on ALL dance floors, what the fuck happens when no one is dancing? All that a bitter wedding reception has to depend on is "Heart of Glass" to let it all soak in.
