Apr 14 2008Steampunk Star Wars Figurines Aren't Metal!

These are a set of steampunk Star Wars figures made by some guy named Sillof. As you can see, they're steampunky. This guy makes all kinds of custom figures so his site is definitely worth checking out if you're into unique figurines. Nothing on the site is for sale, as Sillof does this strictly as a hobby that helps him relax (I drink beer and yell at the television). I thought R2-D2 (despite his proportions) and C-3PO looked the best, followed by the miniature King Kong figure (in the rear) and Demi Moore as that strumpet from the Scarlet Letter.
A bunch more, including Vader and stormtroopers, as well as a link to Sillof's massive gallery, after the jump.

Steampunk Star Wars [sillof]
Thanks to Dan, the man with a plan (for world domination), for the tip

These are supposed to be a "WW2"-ish mod of Star Wars Figurines... I already saw this somewhere else like a month ago.

actually when I think of Steam punk I think of the Victorian Era. Like 1837 to 1901. World war 2 was a bit down the road from that. Most of that stuff they have on including styles and designs on the cloths are Victorian. This is supposed to be around the time that mechanical things are being descoverd. By the time of ww2 things were a bit more well known as far as mechanical things went. They knew a lot more about them. So yeah... maybe there is a ww2 set... but this is a steam punk set.

When I think Steampunk, I think of a stupid word some idiot made up. Actually the first widely viewed Steampunk would be on the original TV series, "The Wild Wild West".

I have to concur with Scott. This whole "Steampunk" revolution is nothing more than trying to industerialize an age in which industery, while revolutionary (The Industeral Revolution, anyone?) did not have any jetpacks or Nemo-like inventions.
So onward with the silliness...oh look, 'Van Helsing' is on.

P.S. One of the FIRST movies that encompassed the uber-industeralized pesudo-ideal was the 1910 silent 'coloured' German film called "Aprocolise". Or rather, I believe that is what the film is called...Anyway, I saw it when I was a child and it scared the bejesus out of me. And a few of the robots from that movie look like the StormTrooper from this 'steampunk' collection.
Enjoy hunting on Amazon for it; weeeeeeeeeeeee.

Awesome. Makes me want to see a whole new Star Wars series made but with a steampunk theme. How awesome would that be? Uh.... without any Lucas involvement, of course.

I def think its a bit overplayed as of late. I'm not saying that. I think these figures are cool though. But as for words people make up. How many of those are out there that get plenty of play. A fucking lot. So that argument really does not hold much water. But it is a made up word though. But I also hate star wars. However these toys are kinda cool though. Also, yes like I said the Victorian era marked the height of the British industrial revolution. SO like I said Victorian era. Not world war 2.

The only thing that bothers me about silent film is the not talking part. Shoot! I said the word "silent" which of course reminds me of "Silent Hill" and I hear the siren going off.
Happens every time.....Who am I to blame.....SmokingGirl!
You're not from Silent Hill, are you?
15. SmokingGirl - April 14, 2008 5:11 PM
Well, aside from the fact that I have no face, big-ass knives for hands, and I ooze acid-like blood, no, I'm not from 'Silent Hill'. Oh, I also react to light being shined on me by doing what looks like the "Thriller" dance...but I believe that that's just normal behaviour for everyone.
Oh no...sunlight! *does dance* Oh, thank goodness, a cloud. Now what were we talking about?
16. GAAA - April 14, 2008 5:14 PM
Please. No. More. Steampunk. Hot-gluing brass colored dowel rods to shit doesn't make it cool. It makes you a douche.
That said, these are well done, and interesting revisions of iconic characters. He's obviously skilled at making figurines. Bully to you sir. Now f'ing stop.
And if I see another blog of some asswipe making a steampunk ipod, dell desktop, Atari 64 or cuisinart blender, I'm going to puke and gouge out my eyes with an overly ornate, antique-looking, faux-baroque #2 pencil.

smokinggirl: the movie's called "metropolis".
grtz
18. SmokingGirl - April 14, 2008 7:36 PM
Why thank you, Mr. Blah. I knew the movie ended in an "issssss" sound. See what we have learned today? I am but a springboard for people...that's right, come hug me.
19. Metropolis - April 14, 2008 9:38 PM
I think these are sweet. The idea of steampunking things i find very interesting. It takes alot of imagination to twist something cool into something else. Also the name of the flick was Metropolis the director was hired by Hitler to do his propoganda movies but a day after being asked he fled to America. A steam engines can be one of the most powerful things if you can find enough pressure and a strong enough power source. also look for a movie called "Steamboy" not a bad movie

This is what would happen to the Star Wars franchise if Guillermo del Toro was going to direct some of the movies... Especially if he had Mike Minola do the art direction... ;-)

I guess I'm one of the few people in this comments section that genuinely enjoys steampunkery... But have already admitted to enjoy looking like an enormous douche here before.
That being said... Luke and Han look a little funny to me. Seeing Luke with such a square/lantern(whatever...) jaw makes my mind break. The droids, Vader and the stromtroopers look fantastic. God, I love the little glowing broiler on R2D2.
22. Phylth - April 15, 2008 9:59 AM
Didn't George Lucas already steampunk the Star Wars story himself, in Willow?
23. Joe - April 15, 2008 12:21 PM
Whoops... so this was the Steampunk version, but if you go to the guys website, you can find his "Star Wars 1942" WW2 figures...
In my opinion, the 1942 figures are FAR better than the Steampunk.
24. groonk - April 15, 2008 5:47 PM
you lost me on the steampowered lightsaber.
maybe a glowing vibro blade or something.
the aesthetic can be pushed in uncomfortable areas, believe it or not.

Steampunk isn't modeled after an actual historical era, it's a combination of styles melded together. Usually people try to incorporate it into a Alternate Reality type story line (usually post apocolyptic or a world in which the industrial revolution never fully evolved). I always associate it with the movie Metropolis.
I think this guy's attention to detail is amazing. Very well done. I'm not a huge fan of the steampunk aesthetic, but I can appreciate this. It's sort of amusing that he blended such drastically different fantasy genres together (Star Wars is it's own genre, it's so classic). I never would have associated the two. Love the patterns on the armor.

LOl. I love all the jerks here who just have to put in their 2 cents on how much they hate steampunk or star wars.
They must hate everything cool in the world and think football is the greatest thing in the world (because they have no sense of creativity)
