Apr 15 2008RC Car Does 200+ MPH, Is Moderately Fast
This is an older video of a tether car doing 200+ MPH on a circular track. At first I thought the guy in the video was participating in a bat-spin race, but then I realized he was whipping the car around to get it started. Watch the video till the end to see the thing really get up to speed. Pretty impressive. Now I'm not suggesting someone stick their leg out in front of it to see what happens when the car or wire hits it, but for the sake of science it is necessary to know whether you can cut a person's leg clean off with an RC car.

It's not fake. Those were butterflies not birds. And look and the flags in the background, they are moving at a normal speed.
3. Sev - April 15, 2008 4:02 PM
Yeah, this is way sped up. The birds like spazz out in the air by the tree over the fence, haha. I thought this has been posted before... : / old!
4. twinky - April 15, 2008 4:02 PM
I dunno the flag seems to be at regular speed. those might not be birds. could be insex or aliens spacecraft. seem 'em before wish my own too eyes. scary little buggers.

Nice. I didn't even notice the birds the first time. Its really funny when you watch it again. I was wondering how that heck this was possible. Should have looked closer.

those are insects, not birds. this is real, i've seen this track before. it has a radar system set up and everything, you can see the readout in the back left., those guys always trying to get the cars faster and faster.

Real or Fake its still stupid.
The thing is just going in a circle.
I can swing a cat by its tale at aleast 150mph.

Real or Fake its still stupid.

I can swing a cat by its tale at least 150mph.

Watch it without audio and cover the bottom portion of the screen where the car is whipping around. Those are in fact birds and they're moving at there normal speed. They only appear to be moving faster because the audio keeps getting faster and faster as well as higher and higher. Fools. Learn some shit about video editing before you write your posts.

What's so RC about it? I don't see any radio control, just a tether.
11. storm - April 15, 2008 5:10 PM
This isn't a real radio controlled car. It's basically an engine with wheels and a rope to keep it in track.
Try to control that speed when you actually got to steer the thing. The guy is practically cheating.
This is how "only" 134mph look when they drive by:

It's a bird, it's a butterfly, it's a car going 'round and 'round. Weeeeeeeeee.
13. Squeely McJuggs - April 15, 2008 7:21 PM
I don't think these guys know that "RC" actually stands for something. There's nothing remotely radio controlled about this car.
14. Sev - April 15, 2008 10:19 PM
@ 9 (martygras9) - You're a complete idiot. At least everyone else is being logical when they say it might be butterflies because they actually kind of fly like that, but how could you say birds fly like that? WE'RE the fools? Right... How could the sound of the car speeding up affect the way the eyes see? Wrong wrong wrong. Get off Daddie's computer... I'm sick of kids acting like they know half a rat's ass about editing, science, physics, technology, anything...
Sorry, that may have been an overreaction, but its been going on for too long unaddressed. : )
I don't think they ever really call it an "RC car" in the video. They call it a nitro car.
15. David - April 16, 2008 12:42 AM
Those are bugs, how could you think they're birds?
And for all you who say it's sped up, watch the flag.
16. Jeff - April 16, 2008 7:39 AM
Yeah. I agreed that it isn't faked - it's real. I also agree that it's not RC, it's a car on a rope. Fairly impressive, though, I suppose.

Please stop debating this clip...yes it is old. This has been a huge arguement for years. The same people are probably making the same points on over a dozen different sites. Don't waste your time.
18. martygras9 - April 16, 2008 9:37 AM
Sev, read a f***ing book. Sound in editing is a lot more effective than you give it credit for. If music can increase the emotion in a scene, it can sure as hell make a cardboard spaceship in Star Wars seem like it's taking off or make an "RC" car appear to be sped up.
If you've ever been outside, you'll have seen bird's flying and eating bugs. They dive, idiot. If you were logical (and didn't stupidly believe the video were sped up) you'd realize that butterflies can't move that fast.
And as Phylth and several others have pointed out, it's not an RC car so it therefore can move faster. It's called kinetic energy.

Send it to Mythbusters that oughta ba a good one
20. Scott - April 16, 2008 11:10 AM
Watching full size cars go around in circles for 2 hours doesn't do it for me, so I doubt this would either.
Unless you could shoot at it of course!
21. masterless - April 16, 2008 11:20 AM
wow the freaks have really come out on this one =P
Personally, I really liked the vid. Something about that whizzing passed sound getting progressively faster gave me goosebumps. Nice job to those RC nerds!

God damn. I love the internet. I get to see people argue about crap that no one in two hours time will care about.

it is an RC car if you look he is holding a controller it's tethered to keep it from flying off and hitting someone and no it's not sped up.
