Apr 14 2008MonoTracer Covered Motorcycles For Sale

The MonoTracer looks like a covered motorcycle. And that's pretty much what it is. It features an aerodynamic cockpit that reduces the bike's drag, and seats two (one behind the other). It looks alright. Its 130 horsepower engine gets it going to 60 in 5.7 seconds and maxes out at 155 MPH. Now I know what you're thinking -- the Geekologie writer is a total wanker. And you're right, I am. The MonoTracer will set you back a staggering $82,350 and are available now. I don't need one though. Nope, I need two. That way I have a backup in case I crash the other trying to jump over my neighbor's house during a stunt spectacular. Don't worry though, they have a pool in the backyard for me to land in.
UPDATE: Greetings from the ICU! I guess it's the other neighbors with a pool.
A bunch more pictures of the bike (including some action shots), after the jump.

A fighter jet and a motorcycle made sweet love, birthed $82,350 MonoTracer [dvice]

Cool! I always wanted to own a Light Cycle. But where is the colored wall that is supposed to be coming out the back? How are you supposed to know what part of the map you have already driven over?

All I see is a very aerodynamic phallus. *sigh* Vodka anyone?
4. natasha - April 14, 2008 5:48 PM
how do you balance when you need to stop-- like at a stoplight?
5. lulu - April 14, 2008 5:49 PM

You won't get hurt, you will die immediately

Apparently there's two retractable wheels that come out the side to balance the bike when it's stopped. Search for "MonoTracer" on YouTube to see it in action. My question is now: What happens if/when one (or both) of those fails?
I could just see someone pulling up to a stop in one of those and all of a sudden just tipping over when a wheel fails to deploy. If it tips on the door, I imagine you're just well screwed there.
Or, if you're in a turn and the inside wheel suddenly deploys, that could really ruin your day.

Maybe that's what your subconscious desires... an aerodynamic phallus. I mean
seriously, if that what you think it looks like, it's been too long since you seen one.
I see a fun toy that would keep me dry. Nothing like NOT getting pelted in the face with water at 65 mph. So Akira! Drool. Time to start saving that 83k.

Yes, it has been awhile since I've seen an aerodynamic phallus...a regular phallus, yes. An aerodynamic one, now that my friends, is a find.
There's nothing like a phallus that can cut down on drag, let me tell ya. *rolls eyes* Jesus...

THIS IS SO COOL. At least it was when it was on "Beyond 2000" over 10 years ago.

Lol - can you say Audi R8...what a rip off!
13. Stephen Hawkins - April 15, 2008 4:41 AM
Audi R8s are cars? With four wheels?
I'd love to see the drag race between this and an R8, this would totally cut up the R8 and the R8 would explode as it crashes into the bikes coloured wall.
Sweet--

Yeah... This thing has been around for at least a decade - glad to see they are finally bringing it to market to cater to the euro-douche crowd. As an aside, why did they take Beyond 2000 off the air anyway?? I loved that show when I was 12.

I've always had a problem with motorcycles that are loaded up with crap and turned into cars on two wheels (Honda) but this is without a doubt very cool. Saving gas and still being able to ride in the weather would be my reason for getting one although it does look very cool.
The site was down so I couldn't get any specs or gas mileage numbers. The price is a bit over the top though. I'm sure it could be mass produced for well under $20,000.

@Stephen Hawkins -
The body shell is practically a photograph of the side profile of the Audi R8, wrapped over a curved shell.

@Bryan- i totally agree. first word out of my mouth when i saw this was "Tron?"

by the way, this video is not playable on Comcast in Houston. They pooch the stream.
These can be seen in the movie "Until the end of the World" back in 91 - Benjamin Koshkin

Regarding back to the drawing board hear is a conventional motorcycle version.

I think I´ve seen a vehicle almost exactly like this back in the 80´s och the early 90´s (haven´t got time to read if anyone else made the same comment). It was called "Oekmobil" (nut sure about the spelling) and was an invention by a man from Switzerland or Austria.
