Apr 14 2008LEGO Chess Set Finally Looks Worth Playing

LEGO has had several different chess sets in the past, but they were fairly boring looking. Now they've has ramped it up a notch and is releasing a set that makes playing chess look as fun as two-hand touch football with a bunch of naked cheerleaders. You can pre-order the 2,481 piece (576 of which are the individual shiny block tops on the playfield) set now, and it ships July 1st. Unfortunately it costs $300, making it too rich for my blood. Which, incidentally, is 65% Goldschläger, so that's saying a lot.
Another picture of the set from the opposite side after the jump.

Tsrif!
Something about the clutter tells me that it's not very conducive to actual game play.

How would you move your Rook? Its Huge!!
Great concept, but defintely wouldn't be able to play on this set.

wow, real insightful comments.
from the product page: Measures 17" (43cm) squared!
it looks cluttered because it's a frikkin small picture, doofus. i suspect you couldn't play much on any set.
it looks awesome to me, care to play?

Here's the douche for your mangina, Andy. I wouldn't want the sand that's stuck in there to get many more irritated, you might begin to make a pearl...and then that would just look like syphillis.
Check Mate.

I actually think the large looking rooks are actually the corners of the chess board, the rooks might fit behind those, without looking at a higher res image it is a bit tough to see. I am guessing this as there is a border around the whole chess board.

I believe noreha is correct, the large sections are corners, not rooks, and are supposed to represent one of the four realms from the Castle series, wizard/skeleton, orc/goblin, knights, and dwarves, and include a dungeon and armory, among other things.

it looks awesome.

It looks pretty awesome, but they made it 9x8! How could they not make it a real sized chess board?

Wait a minute...

Cluttered or not, that is the sexiest chess set I have ever seen. I want 17 of them, last week.

@3: I would tell you what sarcasm or sophisticated humor is but obviously it would be wasted on you. Also, it would seem that my favorite person already buried you.

Am I the only one seeing the $199.99 price tag on the website? TOTALLY more reasonable than 300 (probably a rounding error on someone's part). and with over 2000 pieces, you're paying a scant 8 cents per piece! what a deal!

It's shallow and pedantic.

Wow, which do you dorks like more, chess or legos? Either way this looks pretty cool to me.
