Mar 26 2008Tetrad Shelving Looks Good, Tetrisy

These Tetrad Shelves are made by Brave Space Design in Brooklyn, NY. They come in a variety of different options and are built using environmentally sustainable resources. Unfortunately they will deplete your financial resources if you want some. You have to contact them for the price of one like in the picture, but if you hit the jump and see the colored set, those go for $1,500 per 10 blocks. So, yeah, you might want to try making your own. I just hope you're a better carpenter than I am, because I had to cease construction and seek medical attention after nailing my hand to my junk.
See more models after the jump, along with a link to the company's website.

Thanks to AronRigo, which is what I thought the opening lyrics to Brown Eyed Girl were, for the tip

Why must all these kick-ass products be so unaffordable? If only I were good with my hands!

Yea! Ugly.
Just go to IKEA and save yourself some $$$

shouldn't the completed rows of shelving disappear?

Plywood, saw, hammer, nails, paint.
Hmmm, too complex for me! Where do I send my $1,500?

I love these designers and have admired this design for some time. I have made them for myself and look awesome. The first image is of walnut and ash, expensive stuff. If you cared to look close enough the edges are beveled, nice touch. You're NOT going to find these at Ikea. Infact, you're not going to find real walnut and ash anything at Ikea. They do sell a much cheaper version out of plywood which we see in the bottom two images of this post.

Oops, my bad. Looks like the the "much cheaper version" is indeed $1500 for the plywood stuff. Yup that's pricey, but I still stand by the walnut version (same version I made myself), they look great... at any price. I built mine out of 1" thick solid peruvian walnut and cost me close to $1250.

#9/10: you say that as if it's difficult to make beveled edges. I think that it's unappealing, and way too pricey.

#11 Where did I say it was difficult?

I made some after seeing those a few months back:

#13 Nice! Although, I see you used such thin material you had to use support braces. Mitered corners would have been a nice touch too, but over all they look great against your wall.

Trevor: you're right. After re-reading what you said, I guess I took it wrong, and it ends up not saying anything to the regard of being difficult.

When will people who make tetris themed art learn that THERE IS NO 1x1 TETRAD?
17. laz - March 27, 2008 5:52 AM
@16 - i think that is where blocks have been laid incorrectly...it's the space between the blocks.

@13 You could have seen them several YEARS back if you had watched Brady Bunch reruns. This was their "room divider" wall.
