Mar 3 2008Phun Physics Combines Fun And Physics

Phun is a 2D physics environment where you can build/destroy and otherwise have a jolly good time with all sorts of objects (including your own). It was programmed by Emil Ernerfeldt (awesome name) of UmeƄ University for his CS thesis. It really is awesome and the perfect way to piss away several days at work. There's a video demonstration after the jump and you can go here to download the software for free as long as you don't use it commercially. Anybody interested in purchasing a copy of this software should contact me directly.
Video and another link to the free download after the jump.

I have a feeling that this Mr. Emil Emerfeld is actually, in fact, the Geekologie writer and this, in fact, is actually blatant self-promotion.

thank you Mr. Emerfeld for letting us Linux geeks play too!

I'm so doing this with Johnny Lee's multitouch wiimote hack later this week

Emil Emerfeld did a great job of bringing us back to the Mario Brothers era.

Wow! this thing is so fun and time consuming. I just spent an hour playing with it and didn't even realise.

There's a LINUX version but no MAC OSX? What the hell?!

Oh Mac. How could anyone possibly want to exclude Macs? Their indignity is so fun, it's like when the hippest kid finds out someone doesn't want to be their friend.
This shit is pretty phun, but it's hard to be inspired. Just end up recreating, to one degree or another, what I saw on the video.

Well it's not so much that I'm *full* of MAC indignity, but I do use a MAC at work, which means I can only waste my own time playing this instead of my employer's; I have a PC at home.
Ah well...

I took a few hours this evening to whip up a tool for Phun users. For those you you that haven't tried Phun yet, it's a sandbox physics simulator/game written by Emil Ernerfeldt for his Masters thesis.
The tool overcomes a few of Phun's shortcomings, namely the ability to draw straight lines and complex symmetric shapes, and is called the Phun Gear Creator.
Check it out here:

now who is gonna be the first to create a "penis-entering-vagina" machine?

Actually, my name is Emil Ernerfeldt (not Emerfeldt), but I hope that is still an awesome name ;)
jab: Phun doesn't support multitouch (yet), but I am hoping to try it out with Johnny Lee's IR-pen-wiimote-input soon (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/).
Anthony: great tool!
all of you: Thanks for the feedback!

Reminds me of a 2 dimensional version of Little Big Planet, a revolutionary game coming to PS3 this year.
