Mar 3 2008Man Mods Car Into Wicked X-Wing Fighter

Some guy in California modded his Honda del Sol into Luke's X-Wing Fighter from Star Wars: A New Hope. As you can see it's got R2 in the trunk, some nice graphics work (burns, Rebel insignia), and laser blasters on the car doors. I swear if you squint your eyes, shake your head and punch yourself in the groin at the same time it really does look like a '94 Honda del Sol with a trashcan coming out of the trunk. In all honestly though, I really do like it and think the guy did a great job. It certainly turned out better than my Ford Taurus X-Wing mod. Yeah, I was going for the look of the fighter when it was in the Dagobah Swamp, so I drove it into a lake. I haven't seen it in awhile, but a catfish I met at the bar told me it looks great down there.

As some one who's owned one of those cars...I have to say that's perhaps the closest that car has ever come to looking slightly manly. Now go turn a Miata into a tie fighter.

Perhaps this jackass should have spent the money on something more worthwhile, like a hooker so he can finally lose his virginity.

#2: but miata's are already badass...it'd be hard to put the R2 unit in theback...it'd flip over :p
#3: So this automatically makes the man a virgin eh? Yeah, I guess those of us who are creative in our own ways don't know the warmth of a woman. Good logic...I bet you think politicians all tell the truth too.

I actually saw this guy driving around about 2-3 years ago. Totally forgot about it. How funny that he still has it, good for him I guess.

Isn't this story about 7 years old? I've seen this car a dozen or more times.

That dude used to work at the Griffith Observatory. He was always parked outside my school. The inside of the thing looks even sweeter than the outside.

I've seen this guy in and around Santa Monica and Marina del Rey actually and the car is kinda cool. It's even better on closer inspection.

The vehicle owner is Shawn and has been happily married for several years. He used to work as a Disney Imagineer and also at the Griffith Observatory. He lives in the Marina del Rey/Playa del Rey area just up the road from me. The car got totaled about 2 years ago on the freeway when some jackass pick-up driver ran in to the back of him. He completely rebuilt the car after the insurance company wrote it off. The car appears at a lot of charity events and has raised tens of thousands of dollars for various childrens charities. Laugh all you want but Shawn is shopping for a new car to mod in to an X-Wing and has been offered at least one brand new, top of the line Saturn for free and is currently talking to other dealers/manufacturers about other possible vehicles being donated.

Wow, this car has quite a bit of history. Either way, it's a neat series of car mods.
