Mar 4 2008Machine Gun Cuts Down Tree, Sets It On Fire

From time to time I look up from drowning my sorrows in beer and liquor at the bar to see what's on the television. And this is one thing I happened to see: An episode of Mythbusters where they tested the myth of being able to cut down a tree using a gun. They started with little machine guns (which all failed), and finally moved on to this behemoth -- the Dillon M134D Gatlin Gun. At 3,000 rounds per minute the gun fells the tree in 45 seconds -- AND sets it on fire. AWESOME! Plus Kari was the one shooting it, and I have a crush on her. So it was extra hot for me, like the leftover curry I had for breakfast. Which, just like Kari, made my heart burn.
Worthwhile video of the gun in action after the jump.
Cutting Trees With a Minigun - Kari Byron fires the Dillon M134D [liveleak]
Thanks to Anthony, who can fell a tree with a single chop of his hand, for the tip. Suck it Paul Bunyan!

That's much safer than a chainsaw because of the distance between you and the tree, and ever since DOOM, I have a chainsaw phobia. So where can I get one of these bad boys?

"The minigun is the ultimate tree killer..." Um anyone else think this is strange? I mean seriously...I don't think they had pine or mesquite for bbq's in mind when they were making a firearm that could shoot fifty rounds per second.
In any case, interesting gun and all, but way too much garbage at the end (and the aim, as with many rapid fire guns, is terrible).

guate6- Terrible Aim? with that many rounds per min you just spray all the skinnies down.

I honestly pitched a tent watching Kari shoot that. Now I need to be alone.

She is absolutely the most, if not only, worthwhile part of that show.

haha Tory is such a man-child, playing with the gun before Kari starts shooting. I love that they managed to get her in a dress for this one, just to increase the juxtaposition of hot girl and gun.

Neat... I am really glad that I know that a machine gun can do that now... if it weren't for this show the world would lack the answers that it needs to the truly important questions.

so...uh, why are we still in Iraq if we have these types of guns. Just mow everybody down and get it over with rather then destroying their cities and making them suffer.

wish it was available in COD 4

That is just plain naughty. DANCE mo fo DANCE.
If that comes with explosive or incendiary rounds ill take 2, for those lonely nights deer hunting. Cooks, ternderises and purees the meat WHILE YOU FIRE!!
@12. We have C130 Spectres and could lower the surface of most foreign countries by a metre and start afresh on top of the rubble but aparently it's not "politically correct" ; )

Shooting that gun made Kari horny. We all know.

ok.. what the hell happened to mythbusters? Can a machine gun cut a tree down? they're not even trying anymore. OF COURSE IT #@^$(*& CAN!! givin enough time you could turn an oil tanker into powder with a machine gun... what the hell. I use to love this show so much, but somebody had to go and smoke a bunch of PCP and think it was a good idea to turn the show into a cartoon version of future weapons thinly veiled as a seirous show that can still enrich lives by solving mysteries. everyone who works on that show should be ashamed! thoroughly ashamed!
