Mar 13 2008Backpack Has Speakers, Stormtrooper Styling

The Reppo II Backpack is a product design by Joonas Saaranen. As you may be able to tell being the astute observer that I know you are, it's a hardshell backpack with speakers. It was designed with those people in mind that want to subject you to their music no matter how much it sucks. Like Captain Deaf of the USS Busted Eardrums I had to sit next to on the bus yesterday. He was wearing headphones, but he had the volume up so loud the whole bus could probably hear. I mean WTF? I was going to grab his iPod and smash it, but I knew that things would work themselves out. And you know what? I was right. He got mugged after getting off at his stop. Poor bastard, no more music for him. Say, speaking of music -- I've got a nice iPod for sale. Great condition, comes with a pair of really loud headphones.

I don't get it. In the 80's, they had large boomboxes that black people would carry around. Then they made the soft-backpacks with speakers in them in the 90's so that it would serve a similar purpose. Now they have these terrible looking things for the exact same reason. Shouldn't they have pictured a black guy with these? Oh well. Lets see what they come up with in the next 10 years.

I friggin' hate it when people force everyone around them to hear their music. As if people waiting until the whole song clip on their ringer played before answering it in public wasn't enough, I now frequently see people just walking around blasting entire rap songs from their cell phones. Thank you, whoever made it possible for that to be done on cell phones, I really appreciate it. It takes the annoyance of people walking around talking on speaker phone cranked to a whole new level.

If you want your temple caved in by a mulititude of boots, wouldn't it be cheaper to wear a bacon leotard to a mosque than parade in this obnoxious piece of electronic wankery.

I was going to make one of these with a soft backpack, a 12 volt battery and PC 2.1 speaker system. I realised after taking the subwoofer apart and ctting the power cord off that it runs on 12V AC not DC. It's on instructables.com if you want to make one, just make sure your amplifier runs on 12V DC power.

That's why when I listen to music loudly with my headphones - I make sure it's Clapton.
Who doesn't like "Cocaine" or "Layla"?

Hey, some people would really go for the hard shell back pack alone... I mean, hiking some slippery trails around rivers or waterfalls, and WHOOP! You could end up on your keester, but your lunch is still pristine!!! Not one cracked Dorito!
And, to make it all even better, you’re bopping around the trails and campsite like Peter Griffin, enjoying your own theme music!!!
Hey!
If I don't get my i-pod back in 24 hours, some stinking geek is gonna get whacked!!!

Hey, I used to have one of those softpacks with the built-in speakers. My friends and I used to use it for some background music while skating spots downtown. Businessmen looked on in annoyance, unable to hear their cellphone conversations over The Backstreet Boys blaring out of my backpack.
Man, the 90's were rad.
