Feb 14 2008Seashell House Is Unbelievably Awesome

seashell-1.jpg

This seashell inspired abode was built by designed by Senosiain Arquitectos for a couple in Mexico City. It's amazing. It has to be seen to be believed, so there's a bunch more pictures after the jump. My wife said if our next house isn't like this she'll divorce me. And I could tell she wasn't lying.

Taking cues from a Nautilus shell, the house is put together using ferrocement construction, a technique involving a frame of steel-reinforced chicken wire with a special two-inch-thick composite of concrete spread over it, resulting in a structure that's earthquake-proof and maintenance-free.

Before I saw this I didn't even know I wanted to live in a giant shell, but now I totally do. Anybody want to get together on weekends and start construction of something similar? And obviously by 'start construction' I mean go kill the world's largest nautilus and live in its shell.

A bunch more MUST SEE pictures after the jump.

That is absolutely my dream house.

this is cool, but there is a huge lack on sunlight. its kind of jail like without many windows and openings

Sure, but does it protect against crabs?

I don't want to break anyone's bubbles, but have none of you have seen Extreme Homes on HGTV?

It's like a Roger Dean Yes ablum cover come to life!

this looks sweet, but it also seems to be a total rip off from the seashell house in Final Fantasy VII, in the City of the Ancients......nerd alert.

This house rocks.

i think it's the most f***ing disgusting piece of architecture i've ever seen, personally.

It's like Dr. Doolittle's snail, except there's no Rex Harrison.

you think it constantly sounds like the sea in there? it must be pretty loud too, cause the medium sized ones i found on the beach are quite loud when i put them to my ear - and this shell is huge.

awesome house, it`s like living in a LSD trip 24/7

It's all well and good...for now. But I can see that in no time at all the couple will outgrow this house and have to find a larger one.

Yeah that similarity to FFVII crossed my mind too. I'm going to commit ritual suicide now for being a useless nerd.

It also reminded me of "Crazy House" in Da Lat, Vietnam. It's um, crazy.

That's awesome! It's like Dr. Dolittle and Salvador Dali had a badass child!

Reminds me of Final Fantasy/Chrono Cross. Squaresoft?

sweet house, but you park the car in the lawn?

Oh and this...I am not sure how the acoustics are inside, but I imagine yelling might not be an option.

How can you say there's a lack of sunlight - what about those huge skylights in the roof?

I LOVE this - if I had money to throw at building a kick-ass house, I would take one. If someone wants to give me a seashell house for free, I will gladly accept. I have land to put it on -- although a seashell house in the middle of the woods would look a bit odd. On second thought, maybe I should just try to get a Hobbit house - I already have a hill to put it into.

Sweet! Reminds me of the mushroom houses I live near...

That is a brilliant comment. Props to you.

omg i just creamed my huggies

I wish there was a person standing in front of the house, to see the scale.

Milama Villiage, Grandia II, lulz.

That's pretty freaking awesome.

I've read about this type of construction before and it's odd that more people don't use it when they live in warmer environments. I think it's absolutely beautiful and wish I could live in a house like it.

This is totally a Roger Dean ripoff. I think I've even seen this interior in one of his books.

One of the main objectivers this architect focuses on is natural light.. believe me there is noo lack of light in his works

it looks like a colorful hobbit house

prefer the hobbit, but it is amazing, not very eco though! where's the kitchen?

i'm taking it this guy knows how to use the 3 seashells

Very Pretty. Hmmmm... so where do you put your stuff? Like the stereo, and the books, and etc?
