Feb 14 2008Seashell House Is Unbelievably Awesome

This seashell inspired abode was built by designed by Senosiain Arquitectos for a couple in Mexico City. It's amazing. It has to be seen to be believed, so there's a bunch more pictures after the jump. My wife said if our next house isn't like this she'll divorce me. And I could tell she wasn't lying.
Taking cues from a Nautilus shell, the house is put together using ferrocement construction, a technique involving a frame of steel-reinforced chicken wire with a special two-inch-thick composite of concrete spread over it, resulting in a structure that's earthquake-proof and maintenance-free.
Before I saw this I didn't even know I wanted to live in a giant shell, but now I totally do. Anybody want to get together on weekends and start construction of something similar? And obviously by 'start construction' I mean go kill the world's largest nautilus and live in its shell.
A bunch more MUST SEE pictures after the jump.

Shell-shaped Nautilus House is gorgeous inside and out [dvice]

this looks sweet, but it also seems to be a total rip off from the seashell house in Final Fantasy VII, in the City of the Ancients......nerd alert.

It's like Dr. Doolittle's snail, except there's no Rex Harrison.

you think it constantly sounds like the sea in there? it must be pretty loud too, cause the medium sized ones i found on the beach are quite loud when i put them to my ear - and this shell is huge.

It's all well and good...for now. But I can see that in no time at all the couple will outgrow this house and have to find a larger one.
Yeah that similarity to FFVII crossed my mind too. I'm going to commit ritual suicide now for being a useless nerd.

How can you say there's a lack of sunlight - what about those huge skylights in the roof?
I LOVE this - if I had money to throw at building a kick-ass house, I would take one. If someone wants to give me a seashell house for free, I will gladly accept. I have land to put it on -- although a seashell house in the middle of the woods would look a bit odd. On second thought, maybe I should just try to get a Hobbit house - I already have a hill to put it into.

I've read about this type of construction before and it's odd that more people don't use it when they live in warmer environments. I think it's absolutely beautiful and wish I could live in a house like it.

This is totally a Roger Dean ripoff. I think I've even seen this interior in one of his books.
