Feb 15 2008Rejected Star Wars Promotional Products

There are tons of Star Wars products out there. Some are cool (like the LEGO sets) and some are less cool (like the lightsaber lamp). Well a long time ago (1999) in a galaxy far away (fine, the Milky Way) Pepsi and Luscasarts brainstormed a bunch of Star Wars promotional products. And these, my friends, are the rejects. There's everything here from the Han Solo carbonite fridge to a Death Star grill to an AT-AT Walker chair caddy. Check out the jump to see them all. And while Princess Leia lifesize dolls may exist, I was kind of hoping for a Darth Vader one. You know, so I could fulfill a naughty fantasy punch him in the mouth.
All the failed products after the jump.

Actually that AT-AT Chair Caddy is pretty sweet. I wouldn't mind one.
The carbonite mini-fridge is definitely registering on my creepy scale.

How the hell would the carbonite fridge be a bad idea? I'm actually dissapointed it doesn't exist.
That and the tauntaun suit.

The fridge and grill are actually great ideas. Especially the fridge. I know so many die hards that would pay an arm for one of those. Not me, though. I like having sex.
4. Scooby - February 15, 2008 4:16 PM
I would buy everyone of those..
5. Tap - February 15, 2008 4:23 PM
I like the grill especially.
But what's up with the drawing for the Princess Leia headphones. That girl looks *way* too excited.
6. Jason Geyer - February 15, 2008 4:35 PM
Wow. It's kinda freaking me out how quickly these went around the web. And why shouldn't the girl look excited? She's wearing the best freaking headphones EVER!
If I had known 10 year old concepts were that exciting I would have posted them sooner!

That Death Star grill is LEGIT!
8. David - February 15, 2008 5:14 PM
I want a Tauntaun suit...
9. SteveDave - February 15, 2008 7:39 PM
Not only is the girl in the picture excited, her spidey sense is going off.
10. Amy - February 15, 2008 7:42 PM
Holy crap I want that tauntaun suit so badly.
11. SlapHappy - February 15, 2008 7:45 PM
No one noticed that those headphones are from an awesome little movie called Space Balls?

#11: yeah I was about to say the same thing.
I love the second picture's text "What nobody knows is that what appear to be your legs are really artificial. Your real legs are actually inside the Tauntaun..." Hmmm...I see.
Now the grill...well, that thing wouldn't be strong enough to keep its paint, nor would it be tough enough to take on wood, so that's a no go.
The chair caddy isn't bad, I'd get one.

I am starting work on a Tauntaun suit and should have one by Halloween. If the refrigerator was full size it would be desireable.
14. Turel Darcloak - February 16, 2008 2:57 PM
I would own *everything* here, minus the tauntaun suit. Who the hell thought Princess Leia headphones was a bad idea?! Granted, they're a radio, but they could be modified, damnit!

The fridge, the grill, and the suit would be badass. When become an accountant and embezzle billions of dollars, I will have them made for my millennium falcon house and delorean-style hovercraft.

As everyone is saying, these items are actually pretty awesome. They're way more inventive and unique than most of the Star Wars drivel that gets produced, which usually just ends up being an everyday item with Star Wars imagery slapped on it. That said, I can see why they cancelled these. It's because the Prequels have turned Star Wars into "just for kids!" and many of these items are for adults. They hearken from the olden days and are no longer applicable to modern SW stinkfests.

that Solo Fridge, Tauntaun Suit, Death Star Grill: i must own them.

We were really stoked with the results and wondered if anyone else had anything to say about this. It seems we cannot find enough fans at the gigs to buy a CD but were willing to shell out $15 bucks for a 1 GB...has anyone else found this to work for them?
Also, they seem to be a great eco idea....nobody throws away a flash drive while tons of CD's get in the trash......just a thought

I'm actually disappointed that most of these never went into production.
I would kill for a AT-AT Caddy, Solo Fridge, and Death Star grill.
20. Postulent Dredge - March 8, 2008 3:23 PM
Holy crap on a stick! I'd kill for each of those items! Especially the At-At chair caddy. And c'mon, a Deathstar grill, how can you NOT want one?
21. Postulent Dredge - March 8, 2008 3:25 PM
Good to see I'm not alone... :D

I'm not even into Star Wars and I'd buy the Death Star Grill for sure. Here in Mexico we like to grill with style ;) The rest of the items are pretty cool too, great ideas!

I would kill for a AT-AT Caddy, Solo Fridge, and Death Star grill. And c'mon, a Deathstar grill, how can you NOT want one? I mean seriously its hella COOL!
These are all inventive, I mean most of the items that are in production now are star wars junk that I would never buy, but if these went into production I WOULD BUY the caddy, the fridge and the death star grill man!
