Feb 29 2008Death Star Hotel Being Built, World Is Doomed

This structure is being built in Baku, Azerbaijan (an ex-Soviet country between Russian and Iran). Now I'm a firm believer in honesty being the best policy, so why they're trying to construct this under the guise that it's to be the "Full Moon" Hotel is a mystery to me. Just come out and say it already, Azerbaijan. This is not a 521-foot-tall hotel with 382 rooms on over 35 floors. This is the end of life on earth as we know it. That thing is going to blow up the damn planet. I, for one, am scared.
UPDATE: False alarm -- just saw the rest of the pictures. Nothing to worry about. Turns out the damn thing is flat. No way is it large enough to house a superlaser that could destroy the planet. However it is large enough to expect a reasonably sized mini-bar in each room.
Two more from different angles after the jump.

Anyone else notice the other circle shape building in the last pic? Where the hell is Azerbaijan and why have I never heard of them or their apparently futuristic city? Is it on Mars?
UPDATE: I googled it and it is indeed on Mars.

11. easy - March 1, 2008 10:31 AM
I've never heard if it either, but those intertubes are a great thing. In 10 seconds I learned that Azerbaijan isn't on an ocean, it's on the Caspian Sea. It shares borders with Georgia, Armenia, Russia and Iran.

Atleast the entire country of Azerbajian will have jobs......washing windows and folding towels !!.
I think I'll invest in the Hotel, I could make a fortune furnishing the high speed optics needed for the guests.

Aren't we invading Azerbaijan soon? Seriously, only Israel benefits from these endless Middle East wars. Iraq is the beginning. As we commit war-crimes in Baghdad, the US gov't commits treason at home by opening mail, eliminating habeas corpus, using the judiciary to steal private lands, banning books like "America Deceived" from Amazon and Wikipedia, conducting warrantless wiretaps and engaging in illegal wars on behalf of AIPAC's 'money-men'. Soon, another US false-flag operation will occur (sinking of an Aircraft Carrier by Mossad) and the US will invade Iran.. Then we'll invade Syria, then Saudi Arabia, then Lebanon (again) then ....

Silly Azerbaijan! You can't put a hotel the size of a moon on the Earth! It'll totally mess up it's gravitational orbit!

29. Starchasm - March 3, 2008 12:29 PM
Does Azerbaijan have enough tourism to really necessitate a hotel like this? Sure it looks cool, but who in the heck is going to be staying in it?

Azerbaijan is a country on crossroads of Europe and Asia, locates in Caucasus on the shore of Caspian Sea. Capital: Baku. Azerbaijan have a great tourism project for the next years. So i think this project is a part of it
