It's official folks, here comes the world's cheapest car - The Tata Nano. The car was unveiled today at India's largest automotive show and has received much attention. The car is powered by a 2-cylinder, 33 horsepower motor, and has a top speed right around 60 MPH. It has four doors, seats five, has seatbelts but no radio, air conditioning, or airbags, and is basically a deathtrap. However, in a country where "two-wheeled scooters...are often crammed with entire families", it's definitely a step up in the safety department. And for $2,500 it's hard to beat. However I would recommend they change the name if they plan on selling it over here, because where I'm from Tata Nano is slang for a really, really small breast. Like my wife's right one. Oh no I didn't. Did I? Did I really go there? I think I did. Good burn Geekologie writer! Oh, good backing over the Geekologie writer's nuts with your car, Geekologie writer's wife. Touché.

That's great, I'm glad they're finding alternatives to heavy/expensive cars who eat a lot of gas. I'm also thinking it could be a good alternative to a lot of scooters that are seen in smaller college towns. Impressive.

you are all losers. most cars today are lighter then 30-50 years ago, also when you have 10,000,000 little scooters and sh*(&y little cars, then tend to have sh*(&y little engines...helping towards horrible pollution and noise..and...traffic problems. losers are for the environment...

Wow Dick Valentine. Keep being that ignorant and the world will stay just as great as it is. Are you seriously trying to say that a 2-cylinder, 33 horsepower vehicle (that gets about 50 mpg) produces more pollution than all the awful, overcompensating vehicles that we currently use, especially in the US?
No wonder we can't get any more energy-efficient vehicles in the US.

Glad to know that everybody in here is saying all the stuff without even knowing anything. This car is cheap but it has passed crash tests and is non-polluting enough and meets all Euro 4 norms.
I am not a fan of small cars but this isnt even that bad

Found it.
The Tata Nano Deluxe version would have body colored bumpers, air conditioning but still no power steering. Undoubtedly, the Deluxe version looks much better than the standard version of the Nano. Take a look. This version would definitely cost a bit more than Rs 1 lakh (US $ 2500). After transportation and levies, plus the slightly better trim levels, we expect the Deluxe Nano to cost close to Rs 1.4 lakh on the road.

Dude!! i want one. Hell yeah, id gut that baby and make it a single seater. it would be all about Base and luxury comfort with my lazy boy in there. i could cover the rear window with a big ass lcd and watch movies from my carputer in the rear mirror while im running down children in the street. Throw some wifi and some cell access in there and its a one man rolling entertainment center.

jizzer i mean jeezy damn u are smart, and to all others..canada..too small..;) you know what i mean. Its called momentum just becuase a car is bigger does not mean it make more pollution. the engines will be cheap and with 4 fat f*&K's inside = engine runs at higher rpm, and uses alot more fuel to get the same energy from a V8 bio tch/. go to aussie land they use high octane and have V8's and they get awesome MPG better then USA Or most of the world. Its not the engine its the quality of the fuel tards.

@ Dick Valentine: I get that we all sadly still depend on fossil fuel, that therefore is necessary. But if compared to future possible (or compulsory, because oil will soon come to an end) alternatives, its "benefits" as you say... ...would be...?
I give you some choices that may help you:
1) People kill each other for it, blaming nasty nasty dictators with nasty nasty non-existing WMD
2) Its combustion produces part of the Co2 causing global warming
3) It's difficult and expensive to transport (more than, say, gas)
4) Causes natural disasters when a oiler sinks
So... I know we all still need it, it would be hypocrite to disagree... but saying it has "benefits" that are unseen only by "enviro-freak" is simply bullshit.
Believe me, an hummer is way cooler than this car, no doubt on that, but owning this (just for the everyday short distance travelling) would be simply much more responsible.
And at that price... I'd buy two luxury one and... see you, european parking problems!!!
