Jan 10 2008Thanks Grandma!: Zelda Quilt Slays My Heart

Carolina Patchworks, who was also responsible for the Galaga quilt featured a month ago, went and outdid themselves with a sweet Zelda quilt. It's weird just yesterday I was wanting a pair of Zelda shoes, and now I'm wanting a Zelda quilt. As you can see Link is about to get blasted in the head by a Octorok. The Darknut is there because the bottom part is supposed to resemble a dungeon level. The 64" square quilt costs $475 and is available on Etsy if you have that kind of money. I don't, so I'm stuck with the Link I drew on my stained bedsheet with magic marker. I mean it's pretty good, but he tends to smear whenever I wet the bed.

A close-up of Link after the jump.

Neat. Next project: 16-bit Zelda quilt

The sad thing about that is the hours put into it.
Quilts take ages to make.

I stole CarolinaPatchwork's pattern for one of the Mario quilts and was going to make it for my boyfriend for Christmas. Sadly, those quilts involve a ton of money and effort. Someday...

There seems to be a lot of wrong ideas about quilts. I have sewn literally dozens of them over the last ten years. A quilt top only takes me a weekend to put together. The next weekend I quilt it. I pick up my fabric at sales for about $1 a yard. I buy thread in large spools. I buy my batting in bulk. A quilt should cost less than $30 all together if you are doing it right. Even my equipment is cheap. I have been sewing with the same $100 Singer machine since I started.
