Jan 22 2008Powerstick USB Charger Is Small, Tempting

powerstick.jpg

The Powerstick is a little 40 gram device designed to recharge your gadgets when they run out of juice (not the fruit variety, I'm talking power here). It fully recharges via USB in 90 minutes and is then ready to charge your mobile devices. "It can charge a portable device as fast as a wall charger can, and will in theory double the battery life of your phone, PDA or MP3 player. It even includes 9 connectors covering everything from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG, Motorola, Blackberry and Samsung phones to the iPod and even the iPhone." The thing costs $70 and has a nice little gas gauge style power meter on top. A nice touch if I do say so myself. Speaking of nice touches, I need a massage. First one to come over with some scented massage oils wins the annual "Give The Geekologie Writer A Massage" contest. Winner takes home a mysterious rash and any unused oils.

this one doesn't look as cool, but at $19, I think the $61 in my pocket will look cool enough to make up for it

I'm all out of massage oil . . . but I do have some pineapple flavoured anal lube.

Melissa, you're turning me on

Only one thing you use pineapple anal lube for... ATM. I guess that thing is cool, but if it's just like a wall charger only smaller, then unless this is a thumb drive too, who wants to carry around something extra?

DL - your frugality is turning me on.
Thriftiness is so hot.
It's a done deal if you can tell me how to save hundreds on car insurance.

oh shit, what the hell was that stupid animal. always yapping about saving money. iguana. no. giraffe. no. geese. maybe. don't rush me, I'll get it.

btw, does my alzheimers do anything for you?

Well - yeah. That's something we have in common.
I'm sorry, who are you again?

#6, did you mean parkinson's?

Anyway, aside from anal lubes and massages, I think it's a nifty device. Not sure when I'd use it, since I have car chargers for virtually anything I need a car charger for.

#8, "parkinsons" - why, was my typing shakey?

Melissa - sorry for not properly introducing myself. The name's Mike. Nice to meet you.

Likewise.

Damn Luddites - There is a huge difference between the two chargers. The charger you linked to uses regular batteries (which you'll be replacing regularly). The Powerstick Charger does not a disposable battery - you will never have to change it. It isn't like a wall charger. It plugs into any USB port to charge.

In my world,*all* lube is anal lube.
And anal lube is great for anal massages.
And anal massages are the first step towards prostate stimulation...

Plus, Melissa, your pineapple lube gives all the benefits of having a pineapple in your ass, without the discomfort associated with anal pineapple penetration.

Another win for science!

70 bucks is a little pricey, but it's well worth not needing a wall plug. What I need is a wallet for usb dongles and dingles.

I need a cool name - from now on I'll be Mysterious M
I'm so cool :-P

@12. Ann Camp
yes, the one I linked uses a battery instead of a USB. but the usb needs to be recharged doesn't it. so how is that different from using a RECHARGABLE BATTERY in the one I mentioned? or perhaps you didn't know that such things existed? guess you've been stuck on Gilligan's Island stirring salt water in coconut shells for too long.

And while the usb charger plugs into "any USB port to charge", rechargable batteries plus into ANY WALL OUTLET to charge. and what the hell is a "wall charger"?

I am a fan of the new device (powerstick) for its look, size, all of that.. but mostly it's cleaner than the other garbage in the market.. the energizer one is TERRIBLE, you keep on buying AA batteries both harming the environment and your pocket! so wake up dude! that's not a good deal$.. such chargers should go obsolete, and they would! The only problem is that such companies try to make money not from the devices they sell, but from the AA garbage they keep selling people.

The powerstick or apc do not require buying$$$ other new batteries, and dumping the old ones in our world..

Keep it up Melissa ;)

Sam - don't tell me that you've never heard of rechargable batteries either?

The rechargable batteries you are referring to have a much smaller life cycle compared to this lithium polymer one. So while rechargable batteries would last for few months max, this one would last for years.. big difference

Plus the one you linked to doesnt use rechargable batteries!

Sam, you friggin luddite! The energizer charger comes with "One reusable Energizer® Energi To Go® charger and applicable connectors" and "Two Energizer® e2® Lithium® AA batteries". But you can go to RADIO SHACK and BUY RECHARGABLE BATTERIES to use in it. you don't need to keep buying energizer brand batteries. they just put them in the package to make it a starter set - e.g., when you're at the airport, and you phone is dead, you go in the gift shop and buy the friggin thing, and it's all enclusive.

They should not put in the package disposable batteries in the first place because these should go obsolete! Even the rechargable ones do have a short life cycle. Energizer is making money out of selling garbage. The hope is in products as Powerstick, or APC. I would always go with energy efficient or solar technologies; never with energizer.

I know you're a kind of person who would like to have the final say!! so here you go.. no more replies from my side!

really, I need to have the final say? would you mind explaining how you came to that conclusion? please, find other threads where I insisted on having the final say; not threads where I replied to comments directed at me (such as this thread).

if you prefer one technology over another, that's great for you. but insisting that a battery powered device must fill landfills because you're dense to understand that you could purchase rechargeable batteries seperately, is idiotic.

and your comment "They should not put in the package disposable batteries in the first place" makes no sense in the context of this conversation. the energize product does NOT put disposables in the package, so you should be happy.

and I believe that energizer and others will continue to sell batteries (and make a profit, that's what capitalism is all about) for as long as devices are made that use batteries. so when cameras, gameboys, flashlights, dildos, etc all run on solar power, then energizer will stop making batteries because it won't be profitable.

I know you're a kind of person who doesn't understand big words, so I'm sorry for using them.
And I know you're a kind of person who would likes to suck his fathers dick, so go ahead.

I travel a lot for business so I do not want to have to carry adapters for everything- or a battery charger. I always carry my cell phone and PDA and they have to be charged. The Powerstick charges from my USB port and since I use my laptop constantly it is very simple to keep it fully charged. Seems easy to me. Damn Ludbites, you can keep your silly little battery charger- and your snotty attitude.

Ann,
I don't usually take a laptop with me when I travel, so having a usb charger doesn't help me. so what "seems easy" to you, would not be easy for me.

so it seems that products exist for both of us - you buy a charger which is recharged on a laptop, and I buy rechargable batteries. isn't free enterprise a great thing.

Damn Luddites,
You are right- products exists for all our different needs and wants. And, yes, free enterprise is a great thing! Friends?
Ann
