Jan 23 2008Oakley Medusa Hat & Goggles Are Painful

There are people out there that want to look as stupid as possible. Thankfully for these freaks there is the Medusa hat and goggles from Oakley. The ridiculous hat goes for a paltry $500 and the bug-eyed goggles for $250 -- a steal. I can't imagine who in their right (or wrong) mind would ever, ever, ever buy these monstrosities, but I'm sure they're out there. I'm also sure they're idiots and should be sterilized. That being said, I think they'd be great for a little mythical role-playing in the bedroom. I could get my wife to put these on, then I'd pretend to cut her head off with my man-sword. You know, just like Perseus did.
Thanks to Melissa, goddess of beauty, and Sebastian, god of sexual prowess, for the tips

The "tentacles" are indeed stupid - if you want that look, grow some dreds. But the bug-eyed goggles look like fun.
2. James - January 23, 2008 5:27 PM
Sidenote: why are they using some sort of mutant goblin head for a mannequin?
3. J - January 23, 2008 5:35 PM
Still looks kinda ridiculous, but these might be geared toward snowboarders.. Looks like the goggles are intended for that purpose and the one time I went skiing, I remember seeing people where crazy thermal hats with spikes and tentacles and stuff like that.. Just a thought..

The mannequin head on the left (goggle-less) looks almost like a badass. Now the one on the right (with goggles), looks goofy and stupid. I like Oakley, they make neat things, but this is a bit too much for my taste.

I can already see these being showcased on our local rocky mountain slopes.....good lord.

12. isa - January 23, 2008 10:56 PM
Of COURSE they're geared toward snowboarders, J, you tool. Who the hell else would they be geared toward?
That doesn't change the fact that they're utterly ridiculous.

This looks just like the robot from the break world in Astonishing X-men

Either you get it or you don't. Obviously, you folks don't. It's art for the sake of art. Good art is polarizing and unsafe. Judging by the narrow minded responses I'm seeing here as well as the original post, I'd say that the Medusa definitely qualifies as good art. And I'd say the whoever designed this thing accomplished his mission. "Eight years old" and you people are still yapping about it.

The tags have reached yet another level of funny, man. As in "STUPID". Come on!

Two words.
Burning. Man.
17. bestia - January 24, 2008 2:01 AM
c'mon. you must be reaaaalllllyyyy narrow minded if you claim that none should wear that. you know there were times when people talked just the same about women in trousers.

Looks like a Predator hat. lol!

I worked for Oakley years ago and we sold that in stores. People loved trying it on. Call it stupid if you want, but I like the fact Oakley made something so odd and different. Also, above commenters are right...this really has been around forever.

Right on 14... after all Oakley, is all artistic expression and progression [/sarcasm]
Yeah, I'm all for art for art's sake... but you gotta draw the line somewhere. That hat is far from art. This hat is art... http://www.phobe.com/fsmhat/side_funny.jpg

I bought one and wear it snowboarding all the time. The goggles it comes with instantly fog up and are useless, so I use my snowboard goggles(The stock goggles look stupid anyway). It's incredibly warm and I have got nothing but people saying Coool! and offering to buy it from me. As for the main comment at the top of this page: I'm the furthest thing from a D and D geek and I encourage the author to find someone wearing one and say the aforementioned comment to their face and see what happens.

Geared toward gravers and cyber-goths, thats who. I know some people who would pay full price to wear those ONCE at a club and have em laying around the house for the rest of there lives. Admittedly, I don't like those people, but I do liek the design.

wow leather hair and the bug eyed specks. i think they look like fun no matter if u snowboard or ski maybe a drive on a great motorcycle,If they had a strap for the eye wear then i would use them at the lake

These are very crazy..... at first when i was thinking why and when would anyone wear these i couldnt find an answer...but then i realized they would be sweet for skiing.... alot of crazy hats like this are worn by skiiers and snowboarders so they would definately fit on the slopes...especially the goggle attachment(very cool)

I have the medusa hat, I'm a snowblader and it keeps me very warm
It is well made and shows no sign of damage even after some fairly rugged tumbles
It was expensive, but looks fantastic on the slope, if you don't do anything as far as things like extreme sports go then you're right, this is stupid and no one would consider buying it
But if someone wants it, then let them have it, it's their choice
31. Canadianbacon69 - September 15, 2009 10:37 PM
I will wear this at my next rave :P
32. Yapitsallme - October 17, 2009 2:37 AM
This is all about expression and liberty. Oakley most probably got that from one of its designer back then and spred it around for marketing the brand. People who would see this as a demo in a snowboard or whatever shop would instinctly want to try it just for fun. Not only is the original post from a person with a very narrow vision, but it is also from one with a really bad sense of judgement. IT MIGHT NOT BE YOUR TASTE, AND HOPEFULLY, NOT EVERYBODY AGREED WITH YOU.
Peace out! ; )

Do you have any idea just how many girls you would have all over you from wearing that to a club?!
Hundreds!
I dont know about the rest of you, but where I'm from, the more unique your outfit/hat. The more attention you get from the ladies. I personally wear leather helmets with big ass goggles and horns just about everytime I go out these days. Why? Because it draws positive attention (Once your inside the club lol) wear something like that in the street and you would get stabbed around here :P
