Jan 8 2008In Your Dreams: Panasonic's 150" Plasma

Panasonic unveiled the new reigning king of plasma televisions at CES '08, the 150-incher. As you call tell from the picture of it next to last year's wimpy 103-inch, the thing is freaking huge. Oh yeah, I guess the lady is there for reference too. Anyways, the thing rocks 2k x 4k resolution, roughly four times that of a 1080p set, runs on 220 volts, and is totally freaking huge and so so so so awesome. I want it so bad I'm crying. Literally. And not just because my girlfriend kicked me in the balls when I said I love this TV more than her. Although I did say that and it is true.
A bunch more pics and a link to the gallery after the jump.

Im guessing zero people have 220 running to their living room. But I guess you could hook it up next to your dryer or stove hahahaha.
Awesome though.

While other TV manufacturers contine to try to come up with bigger and bigger TVs to show off at the CES, I'm going to continue my practice of searching out smaller and smaller women to stand next to my existing TVs.

ok I would never ever complain about having one of those bad boys in my living room, other than the fact I'd probably have to build a bigger living room to accomodate my TV. But really you get the same effect out of a good HD projector - for about $250,000 less - provided it's bright. How many man hours and engineering went into that TV that no one is going to ever buy?

Hmmm...any word on price? Maybe $10k + ? I still maintain what I say about a projector. They rock. I've got a 123" screen thanks to my DLP projector, AND it cost me less than $2k. I guess someone will buy this monstrosity...oh and if the movers break it, hah, they go bankrupt trying to fix it. Good job Panasonic.
It looks neat, but definitely impractical.

Hmmmm huge ass plasma = huge ass burn in... no thanks
9. badcock - January 8, 2008 8:03 PM
I can't really tell it's that big, when they have 4 and a half foot tall asians standing next to it, they'll make anything look huge.

#6, also, to watch stuff from your projector in the light, you'd need something higher than 3000ANSI lumens. All the new optoma, sony, epson, and other projectors have those for daytime watching, and for movie-projectors.

Despite the fact that your average Joe couldn't afford it in the first place, you couldn't even get that sucker in most peoples front door anyways. Ahhh, to have more money than sense.

It would sure save on wallpaper (hey I have to justify it to the wife somehow)
Damn, Matt, well done for assuming that the rest of the world has 110 like the US. How about all of europe? We're all 220 here.
Wait.... does that mean that the UK has access to somthing first???
GREAT Britain FTW!!

how do you get that into a house?

Geekologie writer, why do you refer to both your wife and your girlfriend in your blogs? I hope neither read your websites, otherwise I can think of a dog house with your name on it.

37½ feet. That's how far away you need to sit for optimal viewing. I think I'll stick with the 53"!

@12- Actually, it's around 125 volts in most new houses these days. The reason the UK has almost twice that is bc it's so small! : P Same with Japan, every TV there is HD and runs on a digital signal bc they only need a one satellite for the whole nation. : \ Analog's out there.
About the tv, It's nice, but unless it comes apart in 5 different pieces to move it around, it's too impractical... : P I bet the resolution's reeeeaaal pretty though... *drools*

@17 -
It's 220V in all of Europe.
It's 220V in all of Russia
It's 220V in all of China.
So it's not just because UK and Japan are small. And it's not because they got everything digital.
Actually, Japan uses 100V.

Hmmmm.... Please dont take this information as complete fact, as I wasn't fortunate enough to be educated in the US, although I am fairly sure it is correct. Of the 225 countries, territories and colonies in the world, only 30 use 110-120v power. The remaining 195 or 86.6667 % of the worlds countries (approximately 92% of the worlds population) use something other than what you only know (220-240v). Hell, they could put one of these Plasma's in the Congo, Afghanistan or Bolivia. In Fact most third world countries (if they could afford it) can run them and the majority of the western world as well (Europe, Asia, Australia - check out an Atlas for these locations). It appears that only the US and a handful of other not so fortunate countries which have the same misfortune of sharing the same power system as the US cannot run them. It also appears that a number of countries are currently upgrading their 110-120v systems to 220-240v at the moment. Perhaps the US should follow suit. Or maybe 92% of the worlds population should change to suit the US. Hmmm, I wonder how much in the way of elecrical (or anything in that manner) is manufactured in the US? No wonder it wont work there... it is designed to suit the majority of the world. Get out your Atlas and have a look. You may learn that there is more than 1 country in the world.....

my optoma projector gives me a seven foot screen right onto a flat white painted wall. i hid my surround sound behind some stylish curtians. the projector has 3000 lume so i can watch it in the day, as long as there is not direct sunlight on the screen it looks great. at night its a theatre experience. it all costs about $2,500 with curtians ad all.
