Dec 28 2007Vivid Audio G1 Giya Speakers Are Confused

Vivid Audio's new G1 Giya speakers were recently unveiled, and as you can see, they look ridiculous. They stand 5 1/2 feet tall, weigh 154 pounds each, and are capable of handling frequencies between 23Hz and 44kHz with 800-watts of power. They also come with automotive paint finishes and cost $54,000. Proving beyond a doubt the damn speakers think they're cars. They're both painted and priced like them, so it's no wonder the poor bastards are so confused. And as much as I would love to own them, I don't exactly live in a magic lamp and grant wishes. Okay fine, I do grant wishes. But only ones that have to do with me and hot chicks getting it on. And even those aren’t so much wishes as they are wet dreams I have.

Is 44kHz correct? We can't hear much higher than 20kHz and I've never heard of speakers going higher than 30.

It's true, most people can't hear above 20kHz, but looking on engadget and the site they link to(sonicflare.com) it seems that thats correct. The company itself doesn't list specs but it wouldn't suprise me if they gave it such a high response just to be cool.

Heh, they're also made with terrible design. I bet anyone could accidentally knock one over...oops, there goes $54k. I agree with the frequency thing, 20kHz is max for most, and a bit higher for few, but definitely not 44kHz. But you know what...the whole "sucker being born every minute" thing is true, and I bet big shot people with a lot of money will buy these just to say they have them, instead of giving money to those in need (read: me).
Damn, you can get a used Ferrari for that much...you can get a crapload of Bose speakers or a lot of car-audio equipment for that much (with a car to go with it), and I bet it'd sound better, have higher quality, be overall better, and just pwn this confused set-o-speakers.
