Dec 3 2007Recycled Computer Ornaments Are Geeky

These CD and Circuit Board Christmas Tree Decorations are just the thing to show your eco-friendly, geeky side this holiday season.
Decorate your Christmas tree with these funky and good looking hanging decorations made from recycled circuit boards and recycled CDs, that would otherwise have been thrown away. The shiny sides and metal bits will catch the light, and they’ll look great on your tree, under all your (low energy) lights.
The only thing is that prices start at $6, which is pretty steep for would-be garbage. And this explains why my wife decided to make some herself. Unfortunately she used the motherboard for my new gaming rig and all my backup CDs. Which is why I'm making a rug for the garage with her favorite clothes.

$6? I could decorate my whole tree with free ones from AOL.

$6 a piece eh? Heh, #1's right about the AOL cd's...just use the cd's and a cookie cutter, and presto! CD ornaments...perhaps even FREE.
Yes it's geeky, but it's stupid. If you want to impress people, cut up some DL DVD"s since they cost so much, that would be more reasonable to charge that much (though not quite). But CD"s? They cost $.06 at their cheapest (at least that I've seen).

Ok fools, you go ahead and try cutting a CD without having is shatter or crack.
They are obviously using a laser cutter (or something equivelent) to cut the discs. Stop being so cheap. I hope you all get shards of CD's jammed into your hands.
/rant.

#5, of course these are laser etched/cut. That doesn't mean they can't be reproduced. I've been working on manual crafts and things of the sort for over 14 years and know that when there's a will, there's a way. For instance, with this, one can use a good jigsaw and a lot of patience. Or, a file and even more patience...is it worth it? Well, I'd do it over paying $6 for a ripoff, but overall, I stick to purchasing decorations and using the decorations schools make kids make when they're younger.
