Dec 26 2007Man Buys Most Expensive Starbucks Drink

Recently a man, who will now be known as Shaky Hands Joe, went to Starbucks in an attempt to buy the most expensive drink he could imagine. It turned out to be a 13 shot venti soy hazelnut vanilla cinnamon white mocha with extra white mocha and caramel, which will now be known as the drink that tastes like ass. It would have cost $13.76 with tax (ignore receipt), but the bastard had a coupon and got it for free. This story reminds me of the time I went on a date and ordered the most expensive bottle of wine the restaurant had. Not only did it not come in a box, it cost $600! After we had finished our meal I excused myself to the restroom and tried to escape out the window. Unfortunately I was too drunk and ended up passing out in a stall and puking on myself. See, very similar story.

I work at Starbucks; I've had worse come through. One of my regulars hets 14 shots of espresso with 14 raw sugars; not more expensive, but even more disgusting. Another guy gets an iced venti 6 pumps apiece pumpkin spice cinnamon dolce vanilla toffee nut organic with whip and cinnamon powder chai. He's a fatty.
I'm surprised he didn't get soy, or breve. Hell, might as well tack on an extra 40 cents.

13 shots! wouldn't your heart explode? One shot has about 100mg of caffeine. FDA recommends no more than 300 in one day. This guy had 1300, plus chocolate has caffeine in it also. So he had at least 5 times your daily allowance of caffeine.
Guy sounds like a douche. I hope his heart explodes.

Is there an echo in here?

I need to tell this to the starbuck's that sits 15 feet from my work.
This guy must be suicidal or likes the taste of ulcers.

Unfortunatly this is not the most expensive drink you can order. When I worked at Starbucks in college someone came in and ordered a drink for 18bucks. Could have added much more stuff, he filled up the cup with cheap stuff....try again!!

nice, that's right around the corner from me.

people, 1300mg caffeine is nothing.
sure, in US some government thingy suggests 300mg daily. whatever. in the rest of the world people drink more on daily basis, likely even in the US. lots more. when i was a kid i drank 17 cups a regular finnish coffee (rated 100-150mg each) on a sunny day, which was like 10 more than i normally drank at the time. and i had a friend who used to eat caffeine tabs like candies in college to stay awake.
caffeine intoxication causes issues, but when consumed by a regular consumer sudden higher amount causes nothing too serious.
lethal amount (LD50) of caffeine is around 150-200mg PER body kilo. thus for an adult weighting say 70 kilos it's over 70 cups/shots and it's unlikely anyone can consume the amount. the wiki says 2000mg could be already problematic, unlikely to a person who regularily drinks past 400mg a day. and also, when drinking coffee, and not abusing caffeine in pills in one way or another, the stomack takes time to process the coffee and releasing the caffeine to the blood is considerable slower over a period of a time.

Maybe one of these can keep me up one day (or four).

.....do we honestly care......?

This person has more to worry about w/all the crap sugars they're ingesting than they do the caffeine.
People who add shitheel flavors to their coffee should be sterilized, preferably at a Starbucks.

A friend of mine worked at Starbucks during college and he said that they're not allowed to put more than 3 shots in a single drink...wonder when that changed.

This is news? A 13 dollar coffee? And it was only 13 shots? I drink an 8 shot just for the hell of it, someone who's serious about it really ought to step it up more than 13 shots.

Hi, people, notice this one is an advertisement. A pretty lame one too. Look on the right... it doesn't have a date, but rather just says, "featured."
The date on that receipt is like September.
Meaning when you click to comment you get bombarded with ads.
Trickery. It almost looks the same on the front page....
Damn you, Superficial.

You're coffee isn't the real coffee, it's just some...coloured shit with no taste. It's water, with a strange colour and it makes me wanna puke.
Of course he's still alive and healty, he drank coloured water!

Hey US-Folks,
u think 13 Dollar is expensive? just come to Europe and try to get a regular coffee in a Starbucks for that money, I guess the exchange rate is by now about 10:1, so everyone in London or Paris or even Hückelrath-Meckernich is gonna love about your try to buy real things with your wortless currency!
:-D

26. Doomhammer - December 27, 2007 8:34 AM
So some guys buy $14 coffee, and some freaks buy $40 dollar funky accent glasses and work at starbucks. Both losers in my opinion.
27. Violet - December 27, 2007 9:41 AM
I ahve a sneaking suspicion that that order was more about sticking it to Starbucks than actually getting something you'd want to drink.
28. Tom Delay - December 27, 2007 12:59 PM
First this was reported on the consumerist days ago. Second the guy did even drink the drink. This "blog" sucks I'm out.
29. Brittany - December 27, 2007 1:07 PM
This one's for you lopelus, if you're getting your "news" from the Superficial you've got issues.
30. Jules - December 27, 2007 1:20 PM
Thats really not all that bad.
Should have gotten breve. Always more than soy.
31. Diane - December 27, 2007 1:37 PM
He used one of those complaint coupons they give people who complain their drink is screwed up. People also sell them on Ebay. They're for any size drink made any way you like. The purpose of this was to stick it to Starbucks with the most expensive drink possible. Too bad it still only cost $.12 to make including the cost of the damm cup. Someone should point out to this guy he spend more money in gas going to Starbucks then they spent making his drink.
32. joeypants - December 27, 2007 2:19 PM
I've heard that McDonald's uses better quality beans than Starbucks... any truth to that???
33. Emma Sanders - December 27, 2007 2:50 PM

34. ashke - December 27, 2007 2:52 PM
Wow, from the consumerist ages ago, geekologie yesterday, to the superfish today. Recycling is good, but not for news-lite.
What does this have to do with celebrity gossip exactly?
35. joejoe - December 27, 2007 2:52 PM
To hell with Starf**ks coffee! And the same to you freaks that pussy it up with 5 different kinds of sugar and cream in there! Dollar-a-cup-and-drink-it-black, beeeetoch!
36. Dick Johnson - December 28, 2007 3:24 AM
Why is this such a big deal? Who cares if he bought a cup of coffee with a bunch of shots and it was worth $13..
37. cracked out - January 14, 2008 8:51 PM
like $13 ish dollars is "expensive" at a starbucks....
perhaps Jersey Joe should have used his 15 minutes of fame on something more exceiting. Trying throwing yourself in front of a bus with a starbucks cup in your hand, at least that way someone could sue starbucks for your stupidity.
Thanks for making me read that article and in turn making me dumber....
