Dec 6 2007Eye Candy: Pac-Man Christmas Tree

The Pac-Man Christmas Tree is stunning. It's "a fully-animated version of the classic arcade game, rendered across thousands of colored LEDs." Granted "fully-animated" in this case means the characters barely move. Allegedly it's somewhere in downtown Madrid, so if anyone goes to see it, let me know. Just looking at it really makes me understand the true meaning of Christmas. Which is, of course, video games.
A video of Pac-Man doing his best to scarf grimace proportions (and failing) after the chomp.

What's the point? Damn thing doesn't even work. All you see is the characters move back and forth a little. If I was there and realize it didn't work, I knock the damn thing over like a pinball machine. Of course it would be like the Grinch and stealing Christmas, but hey, it's just Madrid.

Man, reading all these comments on posts is quite disheartening. I guess that people don't understand the "you know what, I made this and I'm proud of it" aspect of making something. Anything can be made better, but when someone goes through the trouble of making something awesome and elaborate, that person is proud of their work and wants to share it with everyone.
For instance, I made things at first with legos and k'nex that were never on the instruction manuals (yes, I am a geek), and was proud of that, and if at the time, geekologie was around, I probably would have submitted it to share. Hard work and ingenuity are no longer appreciated by some it seems.
I think it's neat...I can imagine the complex circuitry involved with making this to be fully functional (like the video game).

2, I was going to say something stupid for ironic purposes, but I completely agree with you.
But apparently nobody wants to see my wad of play-dough with toothpicks stuck in it.

Back in the day my family gamed together. Arcades were sucking as much change as mom and dad could get out. PacMan, invaders, centipede ruled. Till one fine day Mom decided that PacMan was the devil and was coming to chew her up. Not that thats important. its just a funny memory for me from when i was a kid. Today mom is 60 and counterstrike causes her to step quietly around corners and run like hell from you in the grocery store. Ha ha ha. My mom pwns.
BOOM! headshot!!!

let's face it the standards over here at geekologie are high. Unless it has it's Ms. Pacman with huge boobs it might suffice, but unfortunately for us its not.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
