Nov 21 2007Ukranian Man Builds Two-Faced Wooden Car

I don't know what it is with Ukrainians and building unusual wooden things, but Vasily Lazarenko has gone and built himself a car. Under the wood it's a 1981 Opel, but on top of the wood it's a confusing looking sedan/convertible hybrid. Like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I mean damn that wood looks good, but I would have stuck with one design for the whole thing. Vasily quit his job and sold two other cars in order to afford the 1.5 years and parts needed to complete this, uh, thing. He refuses to admit what it cost to build, which means it was way too much and he regrets ever doing it. You have talent Vasily, but lets stick to rocking chairs and toy wagons in the future, okay?
A few more pictures and a video of the car in action after the jump.

What the heck?
Props to him for crazy creativity, but it's a little too weird for me. But hey, it's his dream.

Is the interior not split into 2 different models? I can't look at the video, but the pics appears to show that the seats match on both sides.

...What does he do when it rains?
Rain + Wood + Exposed Leather = Ruined Car

Well... the side that isnt covered by wood has a cover... like most convertables (You can see it in the back), and im sure hes weatherproofed the wood. If not, he looks like hes pretty wealthy and probably owns 10 cars. Maybe he only takes it out on sunny days

You know what, im wrong about the cover, i only looked at the first picture, but im still sure he owns enough cars to only take this out in the sun

I like how the side that's exposed is the side that isn't driven (see: where his significant other would be seated). The idea is neat, but the overall effect of this thing is just not working for me. He did waterproof the wood, and I bet he has a custom hardtop to cover the convertible in case it rains (otherwise he'll be in this car alone when it rains).

Yeah this is ugly but the dude probably lived through forced famines and re-education camps so I think everybody can give him a break.

you don't know this man is a billionaire. It's said he recently joined a celebrity and millionaire dating site
Many fans found him there. But I did not find him when I joined it. So sad

You have to have really lot of time to tune a car like this! Time... and money!!

kay well i think its cool. How the hell do you do that with wood? Probably had to steam the wood.. for a LONG time to make it bend like that. How long do you think that took?

This crazy ukrane has mad skillz. Seriously they must teach some crazy wood shop classes in the Ukraine, first the wood computer case and now this, I wish I could do that with wood :P
