Nov 23 2007Supersonic Jet Goes For A Cool $80,000,000

supersonic-jet.jpg

The first Aerion Supersonic Business Jet was recently sold to Sheikh Rashid, the ruler of Dubai. It set him back a paltry $80,000,000. The thing can reach Mach 1.6 and fly from New York to Tokyo in 9.5 hours. Or from New York to Paris in 4.2 hours. It's powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 engines, which make it go really fast. Almost as fast as me. I just flew home from California and boy are my arms tired. Get it? Because I was flying like a bird. Not in a plane. I was flapping my arms, that's why they're tired. Wow that one gets me every time. I am LOL and ROFL. Oh god, I just SMP. If you'll excuse me I need to do a load of laundry.

Video after the cut, but there's no real life footage of the plane.

$80 mil to get places a few hours quickly? If there's only two engines, does that equate to $40 mil per engine? Damn I hope you bent over when you bought that ride. Mr. Rashid you have too much money, and are my hero.

I'll take two please. A his and hers. Oh crap, I don't have 160,000,000.00. I only have 124,5489,983.12 in the bank. Any two for one specials? what determines the price tag for tese luxury toys anyway? I'll tell you what does. It is the price someone is willing to pay. It always comes down to that doesn't it? yep, it sure does. My point in all of my boring needless rambing is just that. Blah, blah, blah. Hey, I wonder if there are any two for one specials? Or, buy one and get the second at half price. Now that I can afford. Seriously I only have around 3.8 million in assets and even if I did have the money to purchase a plane with this kind of price tag, I prolly wouldn;t anyway. Just one welthy guys thoughts. Thanks for reading people...

tha's super cool....

And the U.S. is the great satan? Somebody help me here. $80 million for one airplane for one person and his family and we're the bad guys? If he uses it to fly from home to anywhere 80 times that's $1 mil per trip, 800 trips that $100K per trip. Yeah, that's cost effective. Sure looks like major ego, small package to me.

hahahah thats funny the guy who wrote the description.
i love the posters they are really funny and kool

Uh, the ruler of Dubai is Sheikh Mohammed. His last name is "bin Rashid al Maktoum" because his father, the former ruler of Dubai, was named Rashid bin Saeed al Maktoum. Sheikh Rashid generally refers to Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, who is a Pakistani politician, not involved in governing Dubai (and not the owner of an $80,000,000 jet).

Note: I checked the source links and found a comment on the gizmodo site that first makes the same mistake I did, assuming that the "Ruler of Dubai" bit was important, and then corrects himself in saying that it is a different guy:

That guy seems to think it was the Crown Prince of Ajman, who he names as Rashid bin Humaid. Wikipedia has the Crown Prince of Ajman named as Humaid bin Rashid (which would be a reversal of the generations, Son of Rashid rather than Son of Humaid), so I don't know. In any case, what is listed is not right.

Paul, it is sheikh MOhammed bin Rashid who bough it at the Dubai Airshow, Sheikh Rashid is also correct who cares about all these details.

Yeah, shut up Paul

Cost-ineffective, and it's shit.

Wait till the government and public get their hands on em. Then we'll see the prices drop so we all can have one in our backyard hanger. In a decade this will all look old news but for now it's eye poppin hot candy. *drool*

This airplane looks so weird with that face...

Is that a mosquito? :P

Re: 4: Plus, that's not including the amount of fuel it'll take for each trip.

Which will probably be a lot.

:\

It looks weird to me...

A few more nickels in my piggy bank and I'll be able to afford a sleek private jet like that too -- NOT!

Cheers!
