Nov 16 2007Ripsaw Vehicle Is Nasty, Will Hurt You Bad

The Ripsaw is an unmanned ground vehicle that tears shit up and doesn't even bother taking names later. It goes from 0 to 50 MPH in 3.5 seconds, is very maneuverable, and can knock over barns. It's been around for about two years since it hit the scene as a privately funded DARPA challenger and military prototype, but now they're available to the masses. And for only $200,000. Of course I would want to be able to get in mine and drive it, otherwise it's just a really sick RC car. I'm going to do donuts in the yard of that a-hole down the street that throws his newspaper at me whenever I drive by. If he comes out of his house I'll tell him exactly where I'm gonna ram this thing if I ever catch him with another paper.
Another picture and a video after the jump, which is definitely worth watching all of.

Ripsaw UGV - dude, your Hummer is so lame... [redferret]

After seeing the video, I get it...so it's what happens when there's a threesome between a tank, a dune buggy, and an airboat...sheer madness!! This thing is cool, I wouldn't mind having one...in fact, I'd love to have one!

It has coolness factor - but can it hold all my lady friends AND my extra large sized pimp cup? Paint it black and you got a deal.

Only problem i see with it... it's got no protection for the driver. In the vid you could see a person in it even tho it's claims to be unman'd...
Either way when he's tearin thru that barn, i'd be scared of a plank goin right thru me. Plus from a military standpoint, i dont think i'd be very good. Too many exposed odds and ends.
Very cool toy tho. Great for the outdoorman extremists.

Ok i retract my armor comments, the video demonstration doesn't show armor and shit, whereas after i looked at the pics again it does have it.

Dude you could mount some seriously mean, yet light weight machine guns, or just one 50 cal. in the middle, some small rockets or grenade launchers, this thing would be insane against those camels in the Middle East.

I see two problems with this:
1) There's a driver. DARPA Grand Challenge requires the vehicle to be autonomous. Who built the control AI?
2) Stanley the Volkswagen Taureg from Stanford won Grand Challenge 2005. Is this one of the vehicles that ended up driving itself into a ditch or something?

LOL@15, as if this did anything as lame as get stuck in a ditch.
RIPSAW roared over the edge of a cliff then smashed through the roof of Cookieville Minimum Security Orphanarium.

Reminds me of some of the cars from that TLC show "Full Metal Challenge".
