Nov 26 2007Man Sells Massive Star Wars Toy Collection

Some guy who let his collecting addiction get the best of him is finally selling it all. Included in the auction are over 1,160 modern Star Wars figures, a bunch of vintage ones, and some randoms from other movies. The starting bid is $25,450 and there’s a "Buy-It-Now" price set at $34,500. However there is only one day left and not a single bid. Probably because people are smart and don't want $25,000 worth of modern Star Wars figures. The seller himself admits "This is a big step I'm taking in order to move on and accomplish a new plan I have for my future." No shit it is. Apparently Plan A - 'Live a life of celibacy in your aunt's attic with a massive Star Wars collection' finally lost its luster. Go figure.

A couple more pictures after the jump, hit the auction link if you want to see them all.

DID YOU SEE THE SHIPPING????? $950 USD?

No wonder there are no bids!

omg!!! tha's true!!

I don't think the no bids has anything to do with the shipping cost

This trend has led me to the conclusion that the "40 Year Old Virgin" movie really struck a nerve with a lot of nerds.

He should really have broken it down and sold it in pieces or sets, rather than one big lot.

He will never get that much money for that, everything he is selling is still fairly new and the market is still highly saturated with everything he is trying to sell. People think just because it has Star Wars on there are hundreds of people out there with mountains of cash to throw at the stuff. The old figures are worth a lot of money now because like 5 people thought it was a good idea to keep them in mint condition; these days everyone and their mother is buying up Star Wars stuff like it's gold. He's better off selling stuff piece by piece, he'll be lucky if he gets the money back he paid for all the stuff, he'll probably take a loss.

This ends my nerd rant of the day =P

Cool! Where did he get all those?!

"This is a big step I'm taking in order to move on and accomplish a new plan I have for my future." - what, is he going to start collection Hello Kitty?

It's not only star wars. There's other types of action figures too...I agree with everyone as far as him selling it individually. I love the little paypal advertizement under the "buy it now" link that says:

eBay MasterCard - get up to $25 back Details

heh, nice, on a $34k purchase, nice.

Oh and he accepts personal checks...that made him reach a new level of stupid.

Gay fag

The reason no one has bid is because HE DIDN'T LIST THE CONTENTS OF THE AUCTION. He even apologizes for being "vague." This could be the same 8 figures over and over and you wouldn't know until you opened the box. If he would have listed every figure out, like normal, well-adjusted, rational eBay sellers would (and if he'd made the starting price reasonable and let people bid it up themselves), he'd be getting some takers.

This is just a bunch of new stuff. You can still find most of these in stores. And I already bought all of these that I care about. And actually opened them, because I treat my toys like what they were meant to be. Didn't this guy ever watch Toy Story? Bastard.

I always like to see these giant auctions that show the unopened toys displayed in nice curio cabinets and other examples of real furniture. They look so out of place.

I have an almost complete collection of WOS talking Simpsons toys from a few years ago, but they are not on display anywhere. I bought them by the case, then sold off all the doubles on eBay. The profits paid for my own collection completely, so at least it's not a loss if I decide to sell it off.

Unless you have a mansion where you can dedicate some out of the way place for collections like this, or you designed the stuff yourself while working at Hasbro or Kenner, they're not worth it.

Here's an idea: Recreate some famous scenes from Star Wars in stop motion, using only the unopened figures and vehicles. Sit back and watch the YouTube profits roll in. Or set the whole collection on fire, film it, and watch the YouTube profits roll in.
