Nov 16 2007Fire and Waterproof Hard Drives Coming

SentrySafe and Maxtor got together to develop a line of hard drives that can withstand extreme conditions (briefly). The drives come in 80GB ($260) and 160GB ($320) capacities and "can withstand temperatures up to 1,550° Fahrenheit for 30 minutes and can be submerged in water for up to 24 hours." They'll be available the 1st of December. Which is a little late, because I accidentally burnt the house down last year. I miss you porn collection, I think about you every day.

#1: you will "bay" ??
anyway, yeah so all nice and dandy if you plan on making action movies with the hard drive in the car in case it explodes or falls into a lake or what have you...that's wonderful. I personally don't care about that, i want them to make a hard drive than can withstand being dropped from 3 feet. My external drive was dropped from said height and though it was in warranty, I have to pay to get the stuff recovered, because it won't work now and Western Digital sucks. Oh well, lesson learned. I now keep my external drives no higher than the floor.
