Oct 31 2007Police To Use Gun Cameras For Evidence

gun-camera.jpg

Police officers in Orange County, New York are having their guns fitted with pistol cameras, which show the view of the barrel and target. When an officer removes the gun from its holster, it starts recording. The resulting video will help justify lawful shootings, as well as aid in disciplining officers responsible for wrongful shots. If nothing else, this new arrival should provide for some pretty interesting Youtube footage.

Please note I was unaware of the Philadelphia tragedy at the time of initial commentary.

This is a great idea - anything that helps to keep the crooked bastards in line gets a gold star from me.

come to think of it also if these fall under that freedom to steal information act or whatever then there could be a heck of a lot more great youtube videos coming soon.

Next time they should invite a bullet-camera a la Max Payne, that would make for even better videos.

"invite" -> "invent"
must have been somewhere else with my thoughts :(

So now they get to cap someone and take the video home and choke the chicken while watching it? That's not gay. Gay is friendlier.

The manufacturers of the Taser were offering something like this to police departments in Florida, due to Florida cops complete inability to NOT Tase 6-year-olds.

@ 11 - My first thought was "World's Scariest Police Shootouts," or some other reality dreck, but I bet a lot of YouTube videos will come out of this, as well.

yeah I def think there will be some good vids with this, of course the fact that there's now 5 pounds hanging off the very end of your gun means you probably won't hit shit. Not that they ever do anyway

Actually- that donut comment is poorly timed.

This happened today in Philadelphia:

i know a coast guard officer that could use one of these for entertainment purposes.

Check this out -- they first came up with this stuff in 1938.

What the fuck is wrong with this guy. A philly cop who was shot in the head at a Dunkin Donuts died this morning. This joke was not cool.
