Oct 11 2007Honda's Puyo Is Soft, Does 360s In Place

puyo.jpg

Not to be outdone by Nissan and their cute little Pivo 2 Honda showed off the Puyo (which I thought was Spanish for a woman's genitals) concept van/box thing in Tokyo this week. It has a gel-like outer shell instead of sheet metal that's supposed to be a lot more resilient and safe in collisions. The wheels are from a go-cart (okay, maybe not) and are pushed all the way out to the corners, so the car can do 360s in place. To jack up its coolness factor from 0 to 1, it has scissor-wing doors. Nice try Honda, but I wouldn't be caught dead in it. I would be caught having sex with a prostitute in it though. Because that's how I roll.

One more of the doors open after the jump.

Second bitches!!

It looks like something Homer would have designed whilst he was stoned off frog juice.

Saying that, the only thing which looks remotely smart are the headlights. Do they shine through the bodywork?

That is so cool!

This is getting ridiculous! Car designs of the future should be going forward not backwards, this thing looks worse than a LADA.

Well, at least the glass is easily replaceable...

bit of a small gap to get under those spider doors methinks, unless they open further of course.
Mind you, the Japanese ARE pretty small.

In Spanish, Puyo translates as "a course woolen poncho." And a puya is a spear or jabby thing of some sort.

Odd design.
They really want to sell this?

i....hate...this....thing

It took a while to figure out what this thing reminded me of, and then it hit me: Bubble Bobble. The car's "face" looks like the dinosaur things and the "cabin" looks like a...uh...bubble.
