Oct 10 2007Detector Shirt Finds WiFi Hotspots

The WiFi detector shirt from ThinkGeek finds WiFi connections and displays signal strength by lighting up the blue bars. Currently, the shirt is only capable of detecting 802.11b and 802.11g signals. It runs off of three AAA batteries and will set you back $30, but they're currently sold out. You know, I too have a clothing based detection system. Except it detects women's breasts. Whenever it detects a pair it makes my pants uncomfortable. Pretty amazing technology really.

I don't think it looks too silly.

Would have been better if a penis got more and more erect as the signal improved.

That's interesting because the handheld wifi detectors cost more than that. Probably because they have a display and tell you the network name etc. But you don't need that info, you find that out once you've switched your laptop on anyway.

guess it depends where you need to use it. in NYC, you can always pick up soembody's unsecured network, so you find a good place to sit and open the laptop. but if driving around in the middle of nowhere - lets just say that having the laptop open on the passenger seat, and looking at it to see if it gets a signal, while driving, is a bad idea.

I'm all for wifi signals... but on a shirt? I'm really not THAT desperate for it.
